Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Platja d'es Codolar is one of the beaches of Tossa de Mar, one of the most beautiful towns in the well-known Costa Brava, in Girona region, in Catalonia. It is located in the back zone of Vila Vella (old town), close to the Municipal Museum. Here you can come after walk around the old town, see the very beautiful stone buildings, the great views of sea and Costa Brava or drink or eat something in a lot of bars or restaurants. From the beach you can see very beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea, so finish the walk in the town, bathing or sunbathing in this beach is a very nice experience. In fact, it is a perfect place to relax in spring (less people) or summer (pitifully, full of people). A top in Costa Brava!

Beautiful little beach, this was the highlight of my trip. We got to the beach around 10am (middle of september) and it was not crowded, got a spot right in front near the water. It quickly became packed as the sun started coming out. Bring your snorkels/goggles because there are so many fish to see if you go swimming! Very pleasant and beautiful little cove.

It´s directly under the old town walls, small and mostly crowded even in low season. That´s due to it´s vicinity to the town. In october it was also too shadowy and thereby cold. There are many beaches in the area: you have only to walk and have an adventures spirit and it´s easy to find better places like for example Cala Llevando.

I'm not really a beach person, but even I was captivated by this beautiful cove. I would suggest heading there when it is not too busy as it is fairly small. Perhaps after walking part of one of the Costa Brava trails which begins near this cove. There is also a nice little bar on the front. Grab a drink and watch the waves crash against the rocks in the cove.

A recluse beach with charm of the the old town. The rockY hillsides provide some diving opportunities and snorkling environments to explore. Less people makes it more quiet and relaxing. Available snack bar (cash only) and showers makes it a comfortable place to spend a day. Close to Vila Vella restaurants on the top of the hill if there is a need for more foody lunch than the snack bar can provide.

We went to this cove several mornings after watching sunrise. We had it to ourselves and swam (6.30 in the morning). Sounds early, but worth it to have the cove to yourselves for a short while. We found that the water was really warm even at that time in the morning. Later in the day this cove gets really busy. There are lots of steps down to it so would be difficult for those with mobility issues

Even at Christmastime people were enjoying the warm sun in the sheltered bay, some even testing the water for a swim. Uncrowded in winter, and perhaps the opposite at the height of the tourist season

Sunbeds on all Tossa's beaches are 21 euros for the day, quite expensive. The sand is really gritty so beach shoes are useful. The sea is calm and clear and there is a beach bar.
