Had a great time on the blue lagoon boat trip with Sandro. Very reasonably priced at €13 pp for a good day out. The boat leaves from by the beach in Mellieha which is very handy if you don’t want to have to get the bus to the ferry port. We sailed around the island of Comino, visiting a few caves, before stopping at the blue lagoon. We had 2.5 hours here which was plenty of time to swim in the lagoon. The boat has a toilet and other amenities such as swim floats for swimming in the lagoon, and a ladder for entering the sea. After this, we stopped at Crystal lagoon for another 45 minute swim before sailing back to Mellieha. I would definitely recommend English rose cruises if you’d like a day trip to the blue lagoon.

We had a WONDERFUL afternoon on 20 September, visiting Comino with the super-friendly skipper Sandro. If you do only two things in Malta, visit Mdina at night and do this cruise!
Sandro's communication was excellent - I requested a booking for two at midnight for the next day, and he replied within two minutes! Sandro has a smaller boat, and this was great for getting closer into the gorgeous caves. My partner and I went on a similar cruise in Greece last year, but there were so many people on board that it was very noisy and not nearly as relaxing, due to the large numbers on board and the semi-constant music. Sandro's cruise also felt safer in the current situation - everyone could sit in the open air, but still with shade most of the time.
There were about 20-25 passengers on board, which meant that it was not overcrowded but there was still a nice atmosphere, and we made some new friends. We had 2.5 hours at the Blue Lagoon, which was plenty of time. It is definitely a must-see, but is very, very busy at the tiny beach near the jetties. If you turn left and walk up the hill past all the stands selling drinks etc, you will quickly come across a bay which is very quiet and too beautiful for words.
We also stopped at the Crystal Lagoon on the way back for about ninety minutes. This was perhaps even better - we had time to jump off the boat into the unbelievably clear and warm water. Snorkels and goggles are available if you want to view the abundant sea life below, and it was unanimously agreed by my partner and our new friends that it was a total "slice of paradise". It was much quieter than the Blue Lagoon, so made for a really nice contrast.
I cannot recommend this excursion enough! We agreed that we will do this every time we return to Malta, which has been twice this year and will be at least yearly from now on.
We also did the Blue Grotto tour a few days before, but were distinctly unimpressed by the breakneck speed of it - the engine never stopped once, and we got virtually no time to take photos. Sandro gave us enough time to do so - thank you! If you want to go to the Blue Grotto for some photos, do yourself a favour - get the 221 bus to the Blue Grotto, walk 10-15 minutes uphill to the bus stop "Panorama", see the amazing views from there and walk back down to the Blue Grotto bus stop for your return journey (there is no bus stop on the other side, due to the narrow and windy road). However, if you must make a choice between one and the other do Sandro's tour!

Great trip out to Comino island and Blue Lagoon. Well worth the money. Relaxed and friendly trip. We took our own drinks on board but there is no need as the prices from the on board shop are dirt cheap. Highly recommend.

I booked a Comino cruise a few days before arriving in Mellieha in August. The company took its time to confirm my place, but eventually did. The captain even confirmed my place the day before the cruise was meant to take place. I arrived promptly at the port (9.15am) on the day of the cruise, but did not find the boat. I texted the company asking where the boat was, the text was marked as "Read", yet I received no reply, no apology for the cancellation, nothing. Other people at the port told me that apparently this is an habit - the company cancels tours randomly but does not even bother informing its customers. Please do not waste your time. They even knew that that day was my last one in Malta, and did not even have the courtesy to inform me so that I could plan in advance and book a tour with another company.

We booked a tour several weeks in advance and received a confirmation of the booking from the owner. However, on the day of the tour no one showed up. I called and was simply told "we are not operating today". This is completely unprofessional and inconsiderate. I would not recommend English Rose Cruises.

What a great day!
Staying in Sliema it took 40mins on the local bus for €2 to the English Rose in Mellieha Bay.
Sandro the captain was so lovely! The boat was less crowded than other tours which made it an even more relaxing trip within COVID times.
The boat takes you to the blue lagoon and crystal lagoon admiring caves on your journey to both destinations. At both we enjoyed swimming & had drinks/ food from local food stalls.
I 100% recommend and will be back!!

It really pains me to do this but having booked a trip with Sandro for Saturday morning, my friends and I travelled up from St Julian’s to be there at the appointed time but he never showed up! We’d booked on the Thursday, confirmed the time, agreed that if he needed to cancel he’d let us know by 0700 Saturday morning but then on the day - nothing! I rang both numbers several times but no answer. No replies to emails either.
I don’t know what he was playing it but to say I was frustrated and angry was a disappointment. We ended up taking the ferry to Gozo and taking a bus tour round. We had a great day but it was no thanks to Sandro and his company. Absolutely bloody useless! Avoid!!!
