- Phillip LMelbourne, Australia364 contributionsRelax thereIt's a beautiful spot by itself for relaxing and swimming in safe, still waters, notwithstanding that it is touristy and commercial. The main reason to visit is for the small boat ride through the tunnel, out into the open sea. Unfortunately, on the day we visited the sea was too rough, so the boat ride wasn't operating. I could imagine though that it would be an interesting little journey - and it is cheap. There's also some nice walks for views over the coast.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 October 2023

- Matthew PLondon, United Kingdom6,288 contributionsGreat boat tripWe were lucky as the sea was calm enough for a boat ride. The water is incredibly blue, you can see a long way down. Going through the cave was a bit tight, fortunately we made it both ways without getting wet. They only take cash, and they warn you off before going and you pay before you get back to the jetty.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 May 2024

Back in Gozo we also went to the area of Dwejra where once there was the famous arch. Here there is also another geological curiosity because the erosion carved a passage to a depression where the sea entered making a kind of inland lake. The rough sea prevented us from taking a boat trip through the passage.

While everyone else walked towards where the Azure Window used to be, I went alone to the Inland Sea. It's a beautiful and quiet area with colored bay doors where (I think) fishing boats are kept. I saw many people practicing with their SCUBA gear, and this is apparently a famous place for beginner and novice divers. There's also a small bar (the name of which, for the life of me, I cannot remember) with nice people. I had a quick beer there while just enjoying the view around me. I could live on Gozo....

In a beautiful place, although we were left wanting to be able to enjoy it better since the boat companies that day for some reason were not operating (Saturday, perfect and hot weather).
So we couldn't do the typical activity, so be careful if you are going to come here, you have to make sure they are operational... However, it is a nice place to visit.

Stoped here for a swim on our full day quad bike tour of Gozo. Lovely safe shallow bay for swimming which is separated from the main sea by a dramatic rock formation. Not a great deal of places for a snack or cold drink, especially at busy times and very limited places to change as there are only loos in the couple of restaurants.
Well worth a visit if on Gozo.

This is such a beautiful spot! You can get a boat and go inside the caves. Just do not make it so late, specially during off season, as the place will be under shade at 4.30/5.

The inland sea itself is quite small but definitely worth a trip. Snorkeling in this part is a tad cloudy but still some fish to see. Missed out on snorkeling in the 'blue grotto' so do head there if you get the chance, (looked amazing from the boat!). Talking of boats, do take the trip through the tunnel for 4 euros (per person). I know it's only 10 mins but 4 euros well spent and must've been amazing when the azure window was still standing. You could spend 30 mins here or a few hours, dependent on your sunbathing or diving skills. Plenty of refreshments available and publuc toilets also open. Recommended trip out in Gozo.

We went there multiple times but none of them we used the boat trip. I don't realy suggest that you take the trip as it is still beutiful and even more so if you swim past the cave.

We took the small boat trip which took us from the inland sea through the natural rock "gate" on to the sea. It's about 15 minutes trip along the coast visiting some caves, place where the Azure window used to be before it collapsed. Well worth the visit and well spent 4 euros for the trip.

What's the best way for a solo traveler to experience swimming in the Inner Sea or the Blue hole or Dwejra bay? Can you ask anyone at any of the bars, or hotels, or whatever, nearby, to look after your belongings?
Written 8 September 2019
I would recommend to leave your bags on the bay, then swim out. Keep in mind to always be checking on your bags.
Written 9 September 2019
What hours do the boat tours run? And would you suggest a morning or afternoon visit? We'll be there late November.
Written 25 March 2019
Hi, I would suggest a morning visit since it does get a bit windy
