Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great afternoon out, really good experience especially for kids to learn about theold days, the musuem house is fascinating and we got to see Harris tweed being made. The cafe serves excellent cake and coffee. The beach is super cute in a rocky cove.

Gives an engaging insight into life in the isles in the past. Just the right amount of information and good balance between information and experience.

Well worth a visit but advise you book a slot before going. Check in at the visitor centre then you can explore The Black House on your own. Only a limited number of people at a time. There were only 2 others when we went round. Very interesting. Lived in by Crofters with their animals in the same building. Across the road is The White House (actually grey!) which is the follow on to The Black House. Also remains of other building on site. Buy the guide book.

The Black House itself wasn’t open the day we went otherwise I’d have given it five stars.
It’s a sign of how good the site is that it achieves a four whilst the main building remained closed.
Well worth visiting. A most interesting insight into how people lived. The main building is wonderfully restored.

Visited here in September and found the museum to be very interesting. To see what life was like on the island and how the lives was interesting. They also have a lovely little cafe and good parking

Have been dying to try this groovy little shake out for a while now and it did not disappoint, amazing service, amazing food and we were even given a complimentary bottle of water. Hands down the best little burger joint

I can not go into detail as it was closed being a Sunday, but the grounds and the outside made one want to go inside. Very well kept site.
The whole Island is closed on a Sunday.

This is a very interesting part of The Outer Hebrides and the Harris Tweed weaver and local resident were both full of local lore and quite interesting.

Unfortunately we were twice kicked out of the rooms that we were enjoying so that tour groups could have exclusive use. When we queried this we were told that tour groups had priority over couples and families and we were instructed to leave -twice!

We well understand that tour groups are important to tourism in Lewis but feel that being kicked out of rooms that we had paid to see was completely unacceptable, and the poor and rude behaviour of the group leaders ensured that we will never return and will counsel others to do likewise.

Such a shame that a public historical resource has become exclusive to the wealthy tourists to the exclusion of all others.

Avoid.
