Really worth to be done. Interesting place high in the mountains. You go up to 4900m. The road from Huaraz to Chavin is very beautiful. Marvelous lake on the way to Chavin. Takes one full day. We enjoyed this trip

My personal opinion. ..too much of hassle to get there (it is over 6 hours return trip to get to the temple via a terrible road) for just a bit to see there. Nothing compared to Cusco, the moon temple in Trujillo or the Huacas...More

My family and I arrived at 4pm, from Huaraz in our car. Great view and a very good roadway. After the tunnel you must drive carefully. Try to leave the site before 4pm or 5pm, because a lot of fog before crossing the tunnel, terrible...More

An absolutely fabulous opportunity to learn about Peru's past. Exploring the site without a guide provides you with more flexibility and time to visit the underground chambers.

Please be aware that the museum, which I hear is excellent, is still closed for repairs. I did the tour from Huaraz which I believe is pretty similar no matter who you book with: you get a bus with a guide. All tours from Huaraz...More

I really liked this archaeological site. It is kind of a long way from Huaraz (around 3 hours) and the road is super curvy. We went there on the 28th, which is a national holiday and maybe that's why it was super crowded. Our guide,...More

You will NOT see Chavin de Huantar by accident on the way to somewhere else! There is "nowhere else" beyond Chavin de Huantar, at least none that would interest the casual tourist (or even the hard-core archaeology tourist like me). You have to want to...More

The site exceeded my expectations. Our guide for the site was a shaman. He knew a lot about the history and had really interesting insights into how to interpret the site. It really sparked my interest in the ancient ruins in northern Peru. It is...More
