About
The wines produced on the estate of Volpaia are among the best in the Chianti Classico area, and the cellars are well worth a visit.

- SeafarrwideSydney, Australia7 contributionsOur favourite stay in TuscanyWe love this village and have now stay twice. The first was 2019 and again august 2023. It’s truly unique and such a stunning location up high but central to the whole Radda in Chianti region. We had a rental car and saw many popular medieval villages and wineries on our day trips. The first time we stayed in an apartment with garden access and straight down to the gorgeous pool overlooking the valley. Such an ancient village but beautifully restored. All the four restaurants serve delicious food and the night time its magical. Our favourite is the casual authentic Bar Ucci owned by Paola. Paola makes everyone feel important and like a friend. We loved the food! The actual Castello di Volpaia has its own winery which is cleverly hidden behind the historic structures of all the buildings in the village. We did a wine tasting day with a tour inside one afternoon. It was amazing to see the underground and inside the winery. The biggest wine vats I’ve ever seen and they produce the majority of the Chianti Classico wine in the region. We highly recommend staying here a minimum of 3 nights or more.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 March 2024
- Darcy M22 contributionsHistoric winery with tour & tastingOur group of 6 had reservations for a winery tour & tasting. We were joined by 3 others. Fabio gave a fantastic tour in perfect English, followed by a private tasting of 4 of their spectacular red wines. He shared details about the grapes, winemaking process, machinery, buildings, village & history. Very interesting! All the staff were very warm and friendly. If you come to Tuscany, you must seek this out! Beautiful setting.💕Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 April 2024
- Aisling R5 contributionsAmazing stayWe had an excellent stay in Castillo de Volpaia! The setting was gorgeous, with an amazing view of woodland. The room was immaculate, with a great shower and looked out over the woodland. The village was unique, where almost every building and every resident worked as part of the vineyard. We took part in the wine tour and tasting, Fabio was an excellent guide and the wines were lovely.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 September 2024

My husband and I did a wine tour here last week and we absolutely loved it! The village is beautiful, the story of how they make the wine is fascinating and the wine itself is divine. Our guide was so knowledgeable and engaging and we did the tour and tasting with a lovely group of about 10 others. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at osteria di volpaia afterwards which was just perfect. Highly recommend booking the wine tasting tour and making a reservation for dinner there afterwards.

Black cock tasting with Fabio.
An unforgettable experience for both; the tour of the village, the visit to the cellars, the incredible history of Volpaia finished with an excellent tasting. All managed with such professionalism and empathy by a young man capable of transferring emotions and passion for his work. Thanks for the afternoon spent together

All I can say is wow! What a beautiful location and property. It is truly like a fairytale. The grounds are spectacular. The staff are very pleasant, kind and attentive. The room was the perfect combination of modern and classic Italian. If you are flying into Florence, you must rent a car to get there, about an hour and 5 minutes. Be aware there are many, many, many turns on narrow roads to get to the top of the hill. Being from NY, we weren’t used to these kind of roads but it was absolutely worth it. There are 3 restaurants on site and they are all magnificent. We went to two other parts of Italy and this was our favorite food. The wine tour and tasting is a must. The history behind the village is fascinating and you get to see the ins and outs on how their wine is made. Oh, and the wine is out of this world. Shoutout to Francesca and Francessco who checked us in late at night without a problem. Don’t hesitate, book your stay here! You won’t regret it.

As part of an organized bike tour with Trek Travel, we had an exquisite lunch at this winery, hosted by the gracious owner, who was just an outstanding host. She served a delicous meal, accompanied by delicious wines. She told wonderful stories about the history of the small village and her winery that has been around since the 12th century. She inherited through family and she and her husband modernized it while keeping the unique features that go back in history. After lunch, we toured the facility and finished up in the tasting room where we were able to purchase some her great wines for shipping back to the US.

Very nice the castle, the story behind the castle and the cellar is amazing as well as the landscapes up the mountain to get there. The visit to the vineyard, badeas and tasting were to my taste. Alisse did the tour in Spanish and was not only very friendly but also knew how to detect my taste of wines to offer. I also found it supremely prepared mind beyond being a commercial tour.
I really liked it.

Lovely little village with great architecture. Car park at the bottom which allows you to walk up into the medieval village. We had a walk round the village which is very small, it only took 30minutes. Get there early to enjoy without the other tourists.

Another one of this “hidden” hamlets of Tuscany, a little off the beaten track, situated above Radda in Chianti. There are some paths to walk, which is nice but it takes most part of a day walking to Volpaia and back. Some small one-way lanes also leads to Volpaia and this time we made that choice. Volpaia is a small hamlet, it doesn’t take long to walk around in it. Beautiful, as is the views of the valley between Volpaia and Radda. Don’t miss out on their Chianti, Volpaia has a reputable wine house, or just sit outside the bar and look out over the landscape.

Enchanting place, far from the chaos, immersed in the typical Tuscan landscape. The visit to the cellar with the tasting was beautiful.
The rooms are very nice, with attention to detail and clean; complete breakfast, both savory and sweet, with fresh, homemade products. We had dinner at the tavern and there are no words to describe the goodness of the food, with typically Tuscan products accompanied by an excellent wine.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Volpaia Castle is a perfect place to spend a few relaxing days surrounded by nature.

We are staying in Florence. Would you be able to pick up and drop off or how do you recommend transportation? How much is the cooking class? Is it available May 25 in the afternoon for 2 people? Also, what dishes do you cook in the cooking class?

I was at the restaurant first in 1999 and later in 2005 and had a most memorable food and welcoming experience. Could you tell me if Carolina is still associated with the restaurant. I have her card and photos of us enjoying a wonderful lunch. My husband and I plan to return in October of this year. I could not come to Italy and not visit your beautiful town. A photo of your winery is on the wall of our home. I will bring it with me when I come, in October.
