We had booked a party of 8, comprising of 3 children from 6-16 and 5 adults for the cruise. Sadly, two of the party had been unwell for a couple of days and whilst they had not tested positive for COVID they were not well enough to travel.
The weather was changeable and on the morning Sam kept us appraised and to establish if we could be flexible with timing. They also refunded the two from our party who were poorly. We did not ask for this as it was no ones fault. The gesture was much appreciated as was the great communication regarding the weather and potential changes as a result.
As it transpired the weather was closing in so our trip was bought forward an hour. We were made aware that we were not going to get the genteel cruise we had booked due to the wind. We were given a good idea of the experience we would be getting and given the option to re-book. With two young children this was much appreciated.
We decided to proceed and got exactly the trip that was outlined to us. We were provided with life jackets and given clear instructions on how to use them before we even climbed aboard. Tom, the pilot was brilliant and went through all the safety measures first. and highlighted the various points of interests within the wider Lyme Bay.
Useful points to share:
There are small lockers under some of the seats (which are more like bucking bronco's) for keys, small handbags etc. Very useful if you are on a rib blast.
Even on a warm day the wind can mean you feel cooler so I added a thin thermal layer (think Helly Hansen type thing).
And a coat for the splashing; the inside of the boat stayed dry though.
Book in advance, they always seem to be busy.
With family living near by we have been going to West Bay for nearly 15yrs. We are all wondering why we didn't do it sooner! We will be back in late July so the poorly two from the party can experience it.
This is a team of people who really want their customers to have a great time and operate with high levels of integrity. Our trip out was the last one of the day due to the weather and safety was clearly paramount.
Everyone in the party had a great time and would highly recommend them. Thanks team, we have some brilliant memories and photos. We hope you have a great summer season.

I had booked a sppedboat ride with lyme bay rib charters as an end of holiday treat for a 13 and 7 year old.
We were met on the quay at west bay and issued with age appropriate life jackets. When others who had booked had arrived, we were invited to climb aboard the rib, there were 11 of us in total, ranging in age from 5 to 50. We were given a safety briefing by the skipper before we set off.
Once out if the harbour we turned right towards west beach, eype and sea town. The speed was ramped up to 3knots and we were away. The sea was the calmest it had been all week but even so, we experienced bumps as we sped across the water.
After a while, we turned a few fast dounuts before turning east past west bay and east cliff, did a few more doughnuts then headed back into the harbour.
The trip lasted roughly 30 minutes and was great fun. The 7yr old said it was the best day of his life, whilst the 13 yr old said it was bumpier than a recent speedboat trip down the Thames.
All in all, a great trip and would highly recommend.
Priced at £17 per person over 12, and £15 for under 12.

I was lucky enough to get on the one hour ‘golden’ trip today, lucky I booked in advance as the boat was full. I would definitely recommend booking in advance either by the very easy to use website or in person at West Bay.
Sea conditions were flat and calm so we had a lovely trip down the coast travelling west from West Bay to Lyme Regis before turning around and picking up some speed back towards Freshwater Bay.
I’m sure it would have been a more exhilarating trip had conditions been less calm but it was a perfect, relaxing trip with stunning scenery. After walking the coast path yesterday it was great to experience the same coastline from the sea.
I would definitely recommend this trip for anyone, all ages are catered for.
Tom the skipper was friendly and knowledgable… be sure to ask him about the cliffs in the local area 😉

The RiB is powerful and lots of fun. The captain is experienced and made sure we got our money’s worth by taking us towards Lyme and then back to West Bay with some tight turns along the way. The sea was pretty flat which allowed us to go full speed which blew the cobwebs away. Definitely recommend doing this.

We went on the rib blast ride which was 15 minutes of pure adrenaline rush!
The safety briefing was done well at the start of the trip and then we were off. Our skipper warned us that he was about to open the throttle so that we could all make sure we were holding on (and you really do need to hold on!)
Because we went out with another boat, we were able to cross over in each other’s wake meaning it was extra thrilling.
My husband lost his sunglasses after the wind took them when he turned his head slightly. Luckily one of the crew found them at the back of the boat when we got back but it demonstrates the speed you get up to!!
Highly recommended. Already booked up for one of their other experiences later in the week.

Our third attempt to do our Blast and well worth the wait (incidentally the team were very helpful to rebook us dependant on the weather). I am a non swimmer and the life jacket and conversation about that aspect was helpful to understand and allow full enjoyment of our trip. Great views of the Dorset coast from sea, and exhilarating 'driving' by the bloke at the back with the steering wheel (?). Not a drop of water fell on us, well it was a calm lunchtime. Advance booking is helpful though on the day there might be an opportunity. Remember your face mask.

Our boat trip was classed as “a gentle cruise” which, to be honest, was a tad misleading. But it was BRILLIANT! Apparently we travelled at speed to go over the top of the waves, and it gave a fairly bumpy ride going out towards Lyme Regis, but it wasn’t unpleasant and gave rise to some good laughter from us all. Not at all scary, definitely exhilarating. It was an excellent opportunity to view our beautiful coastline from a different angle, and to see the latest rockfalls.
When we stopped to turn Rich, our skipper, gave a clear commentary on what could be seen, and answered any questions.
It was a fun and friendly ride and I can definitely recommend it to anyone visiting West Bay ( younger members of our visiting family are going out for their “Blast” tomorrow - I almost envy them!)

Hi Kate K
Thanks for you mr lovely review!
We’re really pleased you had a good time and enjoyed viewing our beautiful coastline from the water, it totally changes it doesn’t it?!
Please note, the Gentle Coastal Cruise is fully intended to be exactly that, Gentle! Unfortunately though, sometimes the wind and sea state increases so it is actually (oddly!) a more comfortable and drier ride a little quicker.
Glad you had a good time and do come and see us again on a flat calm day. Evenings are particularly lovely! Thanks again. LBRC

Great fun. Very experienced and competent Skipper, just generally great fun. Stopped four 15 year old boys talking about computer games and kept them laughing for 15 minutes - no easy feat.

All I can say about this is amazing 😍
First me and my two children went on the 30 minute cruise and kids loved it.. then got straight off and was booked on the rob blaster 🤩🤩 not only was it amazing
Then the lady asked my son to to sit up front, which he jumped at the chance we all got off smiling and then rebooked for tommorriw..
The trip it’s self was brilliant but the staff are first class.. they make everyone feel comfortable and at ease.. guide and help and explain.. 5 ⭐️ customer service
I only ever rate a business if Truely happy and these excelled..
Will reccomened to everyone
Thanks for a great trip

Great day out. Easy to book online and confirmation reminder received the day before. You can book at the harbour if spaces available. Clear instructions on safety before leaving the harbour. Milo provided good information on the trip with stops to explain some of the Jurassic coast features. Due to haze we went slightly more inland on the return journey which was fascinating. Suggest you wear a jumper or coat as quite chilly on the sea. Really enjoyable to see the coast and sea towns from a different angle.

I’m thinking of taking my 2 children on my own (6 and 9) is this fast? Would it be suitable?
Written 26 June 2022
They offered 2 trips, one at high speed one a little slower, the fast one wasnt too rough or bouncy but the sea was flat. Personally i would opt for the slower one as you may well get thrown around on the fast one.

Hi, I'm very sorry but I can't answer that. I would check with the operator. They were brilliant in returning calls and general availability for communications.
It may depend on the tour and boat type but the RIB we went out in had padded pods to sit on, two to a pod. I don't see where a dog could safely sit.
But that is only my opinion so do check as if you can have your best friend with you how great would that be.
I hope you both make it out.
Since my last review we've booked again for August. That's how impressed we were with them (Lyme Bay Rib tours).
Leigh.

Hi. Please call on on 07971 258515 to make a booking.
It’s quicker and easier than any other way.
Many thanks... LBRC

Hi Lucy.
Milo here from Lyme Bay RIB Charter.
The minimum age we can take is 5 years old providing the sea state is flat calm.
We then raise this as the sea state increases.
This is done to protect young children from an increased injury risk and also to ensure they are not scared.
If you have any further questions or queries, please do. It hesitate to call us on 07971 258515
Hope to see you soon....

Hi Amy.
We are running daily through the Easter Hols. After that, we usually stop until Mayday but as it's only a week after we will possibly just go straight through until the end of September!
Best plan is to call us directly on 07971 258515.
Hope this helps....

Hi. We can operate all year, but the reality is that the weather is likely to be against us in the winter months.
The quayside trips run April-September and the RIBs are availability to charter all year.
Call or email us to discuss your requirements
