When we were planning our Spring Break trip to Italy, I noticed that Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani are close to Bologna -- and new high-speed TrenItalia trains take only 35 minutes each way from Florence to Bologna, for just 55 euros round trip in 'Premium' class.

After some research on the Web, I found the top automotive tour guide: Francesco Bini at Motorstars. (See www.Motorstars.org) In addition to factory tours, he offers "drive a Ferrari" options -- including a Ferreri 430 Scuderia (racing version) on the Autodromo di Modena track. This is somewhat costly, but worth every dollar / pound / euro. I drove the Ferrari 430 on country roads to the track, which was fun -- but nothing compares to opening up 500 horsepower and paddle-shifting through turns on the Autodromo di Modena track. (Yes, this is a real race track -- not a "tourist track".)

The expert driver also agreed to give our son a couple of laps at full throttle, in the passenger seat. His eyes were like saucers when they pulled up. This was definitely a day-to-remember.

The Autodromo track staff were professional, friendly and helpful. They coordinated everything with Francesco and PushStart, the company that provides the cars and expert drivers.

So if your plans include Michelangelo's David and the amazing art and culture in Florence, don't miss the amazing automotive art and technology nearby. We booked a fast train for 7:30 in the morning, and returned to Florence around 6pm. Francesco picked us up at the central train station in Bologna, provided transport to Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani -- and returned us to catch the train back to Florence.

This became the highlight of our trip.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Visited this circuit as part of our 2016 8 car European Road Trip. Soaking wet when we arrived but this worked to our advantage as nobody else turned up. This meant we had the whole track to ourselves for our two, 4 car 15 minute sessions.
Short circuit but easy to learn in the time available. Also a surprising amount of grip considering the damp weather. Typical Italian laid back attitude, so no real rules & regulations to bother us with. A very enjoyable 15 minutes it was for around 35 euros.

I have been rally driving and track racing for years. All I could hear was the trainer winging about me going to fast. What is the point of track racing if you can't go fast. Drove me bonkers. Probably avoid this place in future.

During our 2 week honeymoon in Italy we planned a day trip to Modena via Trenitalia specifically because my wedding gift to my new husband was driving a Lambo around this test track--he is a big car buff and was super excited! The private transfer that we paid for from the train to the track was worth it--the gentleman driver was very kind and picked us up in a nice Jaguar. We arrived at the track and the young lady at the front desk ushered us into the training room. There was a big table of fresh food and drinks across the room, but no one indicated that it was for us or offered us anything (I learned later that they set this up specifically for us, but since no one pointed it out to us we didn't get to enjoy it). The young man who would be in the car with my husband started his presentation to start training my husband, but otherwise the other staff members pretty much disappeared. After the two of them got in the car and started preparations to start driving it was the private transfer driver (who hung around with us until we were done) was the one who was very sweet and told me where I should stand to get good pictures--he was not an employee here, but clearly just doing this to be nice since everyone else was nowhere to be found and not being helpful. It was a very ODD experience. I was pretty disappointed in the whole experience--you would think when you are paying over $700 to spend roughly 20 minutes at this track that the customer service would be excellent. It seemed as if there were aloof college students running this place that have no customer service experience at all. Very disappointing. I could look past all of that, but the thing that really upset me and cemented that I would not recommend this place to any tourists going to Italy was that part of the deal and that my husband was very excited about was the video they would take of him driving that he could take with him as a souvenir. Apparently, the staff never even set up the video after it being a part of the package we bought. I emailed the coordinator afterwards and stated how disappointed we were and were told we could come back for another 2 free laps if we wished. I explained that we were from the States and this was a once in a lifetime experience for us and that would not be possible and then all communication ceased. SUPER disappointed in this whole situation and unfortunately, I would not recommend it for others. Overpriced, terrible customer service, and just not worth it.

We went to see the site of this historic F1 track albeit now not used in the current circuits.
It was good to see , to say I've visited and seen it and the rest of Imola is certainly worth a visit. The obvious disappointment is that of course the feel of the place, the historic excitement and passion is no longer there or obvious and its a bit dilapidated / neglected , which is such a shame.
Best to go to Marinello for a factory visit to Ferrari and see the Monza track in action really...
No surprise there then!

Awesome fun. Driving a Ferrari 488 Challenge on a racetrack in Modena! The instructor was very good and the car amazing. The track is short but interesting.

The folks at Automodena were quick to answer emails and to line us up to take our three boys on one lap experiences. Very professional. Boys each got to do one lap with expert driver. For the fee we got one lap, free cold drinks/snacks, and boys got certificates and headphones. Boys were also allowed to film while inside the car for no expense. Really great choice. Boys were amazed and talked about the ride the rest of the day. We were referred by folks at Hotel Maranello. $130 Euro per kid.
