I felt quite adventurous on my own without a soul in sight for my trek, especially as a thunderstorm developed. Nasty mosquitoes need repellent. It only took me about 45 minutes to do the loop. I appreciated the change from the beach scene and was...More

This botanico was a nice hike for us a family. The distance was good and we enjoyed seeing the various plants, flowers and birds. However, we did not find any spider monkeys.

This is a real hidden gem for anyone who loves nature or just wants a pleasant place for a shady walk. The variety of plants is amazing and they're well organized by species so you can see differences. We particularly liked the palm and fern...More

The Garden Botanico has so much to offer it's hard to know where to begin. Besides the usual labeling of trees one finds in a botanical garden, the garden has so much more to offer. A representation of a mayan farm with small buildings, artifacts...More

Not many visitors to Puerto Morelos visit the Jardin Botanico and it is a pity because it is a beautiful and peaceful place, well organized in different sections : jungle, mangrove, medicinal plants, palm trees, chicle section, even a few mayan ruins, and a lot...More

I didn't give this a 5 star because it is tough to find. Even the locals don't know where it is. If you are coming from Cancun or points north, go PAST the Puerto Morelos exit on 307. Get into the left lane, because not...More

A little hard to find as the only entrance is right off the northbound lane of the main drag. It is useful to borrow their map BUT don't count on seeing much. We explored every side path and never saw monkeys or agouti, only iguanas....More

Some of the main species of interest are labelled especially on the trees not so much on the herbaceous plants. It's not like a botanic gardens in Europe but well worth a visit.

Hi! I am planning a visit to Mexico February 3 to 10 2015. My wife, son and I will be staying at Grand Sirenis near Akumal. I am a birdwatcher and I have visited the Yucatan several times. I have a few questions concerning the Botanical Gardens that I am hoping you might be able to answer: 1) the entrance seems hard to find, according to information on the Internet. Is it on the main highway between Akumal and Playa del Carmen (#307)? 2) should I take a taxi? Collectivo/ It appears to be about an hour from Akumal but Google Maps isn't actually finding the Botanical Gardens for me. 3) what is the best time of day, and how long should I allow for a visit? 4) how safe/kid-friendly is this place? I have read about a lot of mosquitoes... 5) do you have any information on the birds that are likely to be seen at the Botanical Gardens? Many thanks; John
