It has quite a lot to offer, and depending on the purpose of a visit, everyone will have different experiences. I have visited multiple times. I've gone to relax, to challenge myself, to learn and be inspired. Unexpected insights have come to me at Esalen....More

If you have the inclination to go to Esalen for a massage and some time in the baths, be assured that it is an extraordinary experience. This is a very special place, with none of the facade or fashionableness that sneaks into other experiences. Well...More

I had the good fortune of discovering The Esalen Institute in 1989. I eventually lived there as a Work Scholar in 2004. It was a TOTAL life changing experience for me. Some may not be comfortable with the "bathing suit optional" feature of this historic...More

One of the most beautiful spots in the world. This place opens your mind and your heart with it's beauty. I wouldn't consider it so spiritual as there is ETOH drinking and meat served, but still wonderful to go there for a personal retreat or...More

Hello Esalen staff, After reading about mold and seeing the pictures, I am concerned. Is there reason to be concerned about mold or have you righted that situation? Thank you, Christine

Hi Christine, I am not on staff at Esalen, but I did stay there. I booked a higher priced private room and it was mold free from what I could tell. It wasn't fancy but it was comfortable with a beautiful view of the ocean... More

Hello All! I am considering a point house for a week long stay and was wondering if the sleeping loft is comfortable enough to sleep in. For example is it reminiscent of a bunk bed? or is it a hard futon bunk bed feel? or is it an actual mattress? Is it a scary climb up to it? any feedback appreciated

Hi - Stayed in a loft which was in a 3 person room with 2 beds downstairs. Had my own space in the loft with a single bed. The ceiling was a little low and the steps were steep. Enjoyed the loft
