Do the postcard/magnet shopping there! I met a man with a story there. On the parking lot there was a quite old ranger (?) who kept balance between restaurant and shop customer cars. Wish to have more time and speak to the man. I sense there's something to hear. By the campfire. Under the moonlight. ;)

The drive into and out of Big Sur is amazing. It's is one of the most gorgeous drives in the State of California. There are lots of picturesque vista points. Take a picnic and enjoy the beautiful sites.

We visited this place after a very heavy rainfall day. Part of the highway 1 was closed on that day due to landslides. We reached this station & was surprised to see this station open & officer there was very kind & gave us all the information about the places which were open at that time. a short stop with... More

I kind of believe we drove the road from San Simeon, CA to Monterey, CA the wrong way.... we went north because we were driving the entire coast of California from San Diego to Oregon! But if you drive this roughly 100 mile section of road from Monterey to San Simeon you should be able to pull off the road... More

In one of my trips to California I had a chance to visit this amazing area located south of San Francisco. This view took my breath away. Just perfect day and nice ride. There are several spots to quick stops to admire the view. On of the most beautiful roads in California. I strongly recommend.

This spot is a must stop as you treck along Highway one between Paso Robles and Monterrey. The view is spectacular, for one thing. The multilevel natural terrace looks out over the ocean and is just breath taking. Loved the butterfly garden too. Fun little gift shop and great BBQ with some good ol' strumming and music outside to add... More

Take a trip along the coast of Big Sur! We drove up the coast from Morro Bay to San Jose. The road is very high and windy in places. In some spots, there are no guardrails. There are not many places to stop, but there are a few stores and campgrounds along the route. It is abandoned in many spots.... More

I cannot stress enough how beautiful it was to drive down CA-1 and just enjoy the view of the ocean from the road. Every angle was so wonderful to view. Go during the day, and definitely pack a nice picnic to enjoy along the way somewhere with a view. Restaurants can be slim pickings, and pretty expensive.

Bring your national parks pass so you can get free parking. Or park along the highway, which is free and legal. Get off of Pine Ridge Trail to avoid the swarms of people. Coast Ridge Road is an easy dirt road with views of mountains and ocean, with access to trails.
