Scenery is spectacular. Few services available. My disappointment is the extremely high population, but that is only because I prefer my getaways to be quiet and serene and less congested. Overall not a bad choice for Bucket List, just be prepared to share your space;)

Great landscape for photography but surely you can skip it if you have some plans for the day and want to save some valuable time.

Not a safe swimming beach so keep an eye on the kids but a great place for a picnic. There is a short walk through a tree tunnel to get to the beach. Some times is can get windy even in the summer so bring a jacket.

We came here on the strength of a recommendation from another couple we met on the road. It's a very tucked away beach approx 2 miles from Hwy 1, the turning is sharp and easily missed. If you have a sat nav, ensure it is set and you are prepared to turn with plenty of time! It's a winding single... More

Great campground with lots of areas to explore. Easy hiking with children. One of my favorite spots in Norcal

This one can be tricky to find. The turnoff from Highway 1 is not well marked. Its just south of the bridge that is just south of the entrance to Pfieffer Big Sur State Park

Beautiful and is a must see while visiting Big Sur. Parking is a bit limited down at the bottom of the trail which is beach front however you do have the option to park up on the highway and can bike ride down to the beach. It is a 2 mile bike ride and makes a for about a 30... More

This is on the way to Pfeiffer Beach. Make sure you get a map at the Monterey info building when you drive into the city. They can give you a map of all of Big Sur and the location to this place, which is a narrow road fit for only one car at a time. It's great for getting iconic... More

This is one special place, well worth the visit. There will be others I'm sure to walk on the purple sand and take that photo of the hole in the rock, but it is worth it

This stop took us a little longer than I expected... I've been here twice, in the beginning of May and it was pretty crowded, and the second time was mid November at night to shoot the stars... It is a nice beach, but if you're pressed for time I'd definitely put the other stops in Big Sur above this one.
