This is a fantastic tour for all families, especially chrildren. Today was a perfect solution with clear views, but it is possible that one can have some snow. See enclosed picture from June.

We visited Strandafjellet as part of a trip on a P&O Norweigan Cruise (visiting Stavanger, Olden, Alesund and Bergen). Our tour required a coach trip and ferry before arriving at Strandafjellet. The journey was picturesque and the views did not disappoint on arrival. We took the gondola lift to the top where the views were simply breathtaking. Coffee and waffles were an added bonus! A very memorable trip indeed.…

We took a tour to Mount Stranda while on our cruise - the cable cars are in good condition and offer great views as you make your way to the top of the mountain. Each car comfortably seats 6 people and getting in/out of them is pretty easy. It is probably about a 10 minute ride up in the car (it does get a little warm on a sunny day due to the windows all around you but you can open a couple of small windows for some fresh air). At the top are the most amazing views, with mountain tops as far as the eye can see, lush valleys and fjords - the sheer scale of everything is awe inspiring and something that photos simply cannot do justice to. If you like the great outdoors, looking down on stunning scenery like this is something that is hard to better. We were lucky to get a lovely sunny day and despite there being snow on the ground in places it was still pleasantly warm at the top - certainly short sleeve comfortable. I'd packed a jacket/fleece, expecting it to be cold at the top - iut wasn't! We didn't go into the cafe at the top (too busy enjoying the views) but it looked nice too.…

We took gondolas/cable car to the top of the mountain (Strandafjellet). From there it offers a spectacular view of the fjords. We were with kids 4-9 years old. We could also have climbed it instead of taking the cable cars had it not been warm that day. Was a good activity for kids too.…

Above the little town of Stranda on the western bank of the 110 km. long Storfjord, the Strandafjellet Mountain is located about 56 km. east of the Art Nouveau town of Aalesund. The cable cars, or rather the gondolas, start at about 450 m. above sea level. The ride up to about 1050 m. takes about 15 minutes, and at this altitude there is snow even in the middle of summer. There is a 5 minutes’ walk down to the restaurant area where you have the best view. Most people perhaps have just a waffle with cream and jam, and a cup of coffee. You don’t want to spend too long inside, because you are there to enjoy the view, which on a clear day is just amazing. Outside the pavilion you have a good view of the town of Stranda below, and the Storfjord, one of the longest fjords in Norway. All around you are mountains of about 1500 to 1700 m. with snowcapped peaks, which look great all year round. This is UNESCO heritage area. It is a joy to spend time at the top of the mountain, although it on some days may be a little crowded up there.…
