One should see the lazer show at the Dam. Beautiful view & lightning. Starts after 7.30pm. Its visible from many spots like glow garden.
Also, one can enjoy cycling on the banks of the lake & enjoy its view. Plan to visit the site during monsoon as that gives better view.

There are multiple view points to see the dam. I was able to see from three different places-One is dam view point 3 near jungle safari, had to take electric rickshaw to reach there. Another is on the way to valley of flowers. And third is near cactus garden, The viewpoint 3 was best and closest though. You can see the light show on the dam in evening very nicely from Unity Glow garden. Building this Dam was Sardar Patel's Vision and Dream that unfortunately took multiple decades to complete.

This pace is adjacent to Valley of Flower.
It is a free to do place.
There is a laser showing in the evening. This laser show is different from the laser show at Statue.
Statue Laser show ends at 7:30pm, whereas this one start at 7:45pm.
It is a light & sound show, reflecting patriotism.
You can wait for the speech and sound show. But if you don't have time, you can just see the laser lights and click some pictures.

This dam came up first and then cam the statue of Unity. This dam was the vistion of Sardar Patel. When one visits Statue of Unity this spot is included in the free list. There is a free bus ride upto this spot. A local guide explains the features of this dam. This dam also generates electricity. During night time it is lit up and provides an excellent facade. During monsoons when all the gates are open it provides a spectacular view. This dam is also visible from the viewing gallery of Statue of Unity.

One can't really go to the dam, just to the viewpoint which is located at the Statue of Unity complex.
Getting there is really convenient with e rickshaws available from the parking lot.
The viewpoint is clean, well maintained and is accessible with wheelchairs that can be made available.
We were greeted by an employee Suraksha. She was amazing. She explained the relevant facts of the dam which brought it alive.
There is also a small picture display of the making of the dam.
The dam was the vision of Sardar Vallabhai Patel that finally came to fruition in the year 2017.
We went early... around 9 am. It was quiet, the day was clear and the views of the dam and the river downstream was lovely.
We felt proud to be Indian!

Sardar Sarovar Dam is a dam having largest structure on Narmada River near Navagam, Gujarat, India. The proposed final height of the dam will be 448ft. This project will irrigate more than 6900sq.miles, most of it will be in drought prone areas of Saurashtra and Kutch covering the land spread over 12 districts,62 talukas and 3393 villages in gujarat and some areas of Barmer and Jalore districts of Rajasthan.
It's a very good place for the tourists to visit eventhough very limited facilities are there. In monsoon, when the dam is overflowing with water, the sight is simply awesome. With prior permission from Gandhinagar,
one can visit the power generating station on weekends. There is a fixed circular route to go to the sight where Sardar Vallabhbhai's statue
will be placed on the top of a hill in the middle of the river. a little further away, the Majestic Dam and the main Canal can be seen. Many picnic spots have been made but no facilities are available-no food & water.

This is the only dam which is built from cement & concrete.
This is a very nice picnic spot (Do visit in Monsoon). It's great place in monsoon, greenary greenary everywhere..... There are mainly 3 spots. One is facing towards the dam. The most beautiful place with garden. The garden is also the best for enjoying, photo sessions, eating, etc...
The second spot is also very beautiful. There is a statue of our Ironman (Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel). Another huge statue of our Ironman is in process near Sardar Sarovar Dam.
Good place to visit.
Do visit it in every monsoon when there is lots of rain on upper side of Narmada River, that time Sardar Sarovar dam is overflows....
Here are some pics......

It is good place to visit. There is a 22 Km circular route which takes you to the beauty of Narmada. There is also boating available on the circular route. You can even visit Hydro Power Station if prior permission is taken from Gandhinagar on Weekends & if you are visiting it on weekdays, then special request to see power plant may work. It is really a breathtaking view, when the dam overflows. It generally overflows in the month of August & September. There are few areas where entry is prohibited.

I had gone there for day trip. First of all there are no signs as to where to get the pass for the dam. We had to go all the way back to starting point to get the pass which was a small shanty. There are numerous police check posts which are more of a nuisance since they check vehicles with families too which seemed intrusive. There are no sign boards along the way to guide where you need to go, no restaurants or food outlets too. At one point the police personnel was too rude and harassed us for crossing the checkpoint without getting checked as if it was our perogerative. I guess police don't know the revenue potential of this place, well it would be there loss, so much for Vibrant Gujurat.

I want to visit sardar sarovar in next month during Navratri break. Is it a proper time to visit? Where I will get permission? Is it possible to get permission on line?
Written 25 September 2018
Better to visit post 31 Oct as that's the inauguration date of the world's tallest statue of liberty and currently there is construction going on in full swing and even roads are also under construction, current condition is really bad. Just to visit the dam site, permission is available on the spot but to visit over, behind and to the power turbine room permission is required from gandhinagar office. Also as of now not even a single drop of water is visible at the site so no point, but after the statue uncover that area will flooded with water makes the visit purposeful.
