Everyone spoke very high of the place but unfortunately the Navy boat service had stopped about one month before due to an accident. They were not sure when the service will start again but we managed to view the set of islands over the binoculars and it was interesting to know you were actually almost seeing India. However the Pier where the Train station is and was the start of the Ferrie service that transported estate workers between India and Sri Lanka and the remnents of the ancient gas operated light house are sights to visit

Luckily we had a local person with us who knew the manager of the resort built here so gained access. Pleasant to stroll some distance along, but disappointing to see all the ocean rubbish. Government needs to srep in an ensure free access for everyone to this land feature

I am not sure when was it opened for general public after ending the war in Sri Lanka (The navy soldier guard was a new recruit and history was not known. As long as I know, there is no other railway jetty extended to open sea in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately, the sea end is just a ruin and not allowed to go as it is not safe. Next to this a small light house can be seen. A fishing village is in operation and the rest is a navy camp.
The shallow sea can be detected by the colour but you cannot sea the sand dunes as you sea in the google map. From the far end, towards Rameswaran, a tower can be seen by the naked eye. Any body can travel to the exact place by train, many thanks to initiatives taken by the previous government to rehabilitate all north and Eastern railways.
I am not very sure, whether there are any boat services to take people. Since my wife refuse boat travel, I never tried to inquire even.

My customers had a truly unforgettable experience visiting Adam's Bridge. They were filled with a sense of wonder, knowing they had the rare opportunity to witness such a remarkable site. They captured every moment, understanding that there’s a profound and hidden story behind this historic bridge that makes it even more special.

What a beautiful spot. Islands of white sand surrounded by shallow and serene sea. The setting sun added to its beauty. I dip in the sea is definitely called for. I hope that this spot will remain this way.

Some idiots have built a resort right on the furthest point of Adams Bridge and won’t let anyone in to see it unless you’re staying there. Seriously criminal for people to ruin a countries natural beauty with greed and stupidity!!

Eventhough the boat service is no more to visit sand dunes connecting India to sl , this end of Sri Lanka is a fountain of seashells of various patterns thrown out by fishermen. You can collect a lot
Just turn to left beyond hospital of thaleimannar and go straight to beach.

This 30 km natural bridge between Sri Lanka and the southern tip of India, renowned as Rama’s Bridge is now a chain of sprinkled islands. 8 belonging to Sri Lanka an 8 to India. We visited the 2nd island/ sand bank on a cloudy/ overcast day. First the Navy who operates the boats to the sand banks, refused to take us due to bad weather. Therefore we visited Urumale which was 10 min away and came back to check on the weather situation!

The weather was perfect for a lovely boat ride. We spent about 1.5 hours walking around the sand bank with the Navy divers and looking at the flora and fauna there. The sand banks tend to keep ‘shifting’; hence, the term ‘dancing’ islets!

Ticket for local - Rs.600
Ticket for foreigner - Rs.1200

* Urumale is the only place in Sri Lanka from where you can see another country! On a clear day, you can see the lighthouse on Dhanushkodi Beach in India.

I was lucky that the navy had lifted the ban on foreign tourists going out to the islands four days previously. I was allowed to visit islands one and two of the 19 islands, which create a natural link between Sri Lanka and India. Leaving from Thalaimannar beach in a speedboat and a lurid orange lifejacket, the first island we visited was beautiful and stark and had one small tree growing on it. The sand was incredibly hot, so I ended up doing a strange dance of the hot footed human. Island number two was stunning. There were sand banks all around it and birds and some lonely old lookout posts at the top of the island. They are also known as the dancing islands because the sand shifts from side to side, depending on the seasons. The safe side and the surf side also swap sides. The natural beauty is outstanding. I spent ages wandering around, taking it all in. There was an option to swim in the water at the top of the island. A photographer's dream and a stunning afternoon adventure. Remember to hang on tight when the speedboat arrives back on the mainland. They drive it at speed onto the beach. Great fun!
