I am awed by the southern Iloilo churches, and Guimbal is one of them. It is old, looks old, and I did not have to find out when this was erected. Suffice it to say I am awed by beautiful old churches, and Guimbal dis not disappoint.

After visiting Miagao Church from Iloilo City, we called into Guimbal Church.

The church is impressive old church and a 17th century church made out of adobe and coral stones giving its yellowish colour.

In front of the church is a beautiful park.

There vare several churches to visit in the area if visiting the famous Miagio Church.

The Tigbauan, Guimbal and Miagao churches should all be visited when you are in Iloilo City.

A taxi or other trip is reasonably priced and these old Spanish churches are all lovely and represent a past that is long gone.

This Catholic Church is one of many in southeast Panay around Iloilo City that is a must visit for anyone who is a Catholic, or who likes historic buildings.

It is simple inside but that adds to its serenity. It also makes a great photo.

Another century-old church in south-western Iloilo, Guimbal Church is newly-restored 400 year old church made of yellow adobe and coral stones basically of baroque design. Two wooden saint statues adorn the entrance to the church. Annual town fiesta in Guimbal is celebrated every 10th of September in honor of St. Nicolas de Tolentino. There is a long-week celebration reflecting how festive the people of Guimbal are. Aside from this, Holy Week is the time for homecoming, reunions, and other social gatherings for Guimbalanons, they do Bari-Bari, a unique observance of the Lenten season in Guimbal.

As the Unesco world a Heritage church is the next stop 15 minutes after Guimbal, many just drive by Guimbal. But Guimbal Church has its points of interest too: Two charming wooden saints are found on either side of the church's main door.

Our 4th stop on our way to san Joaquin is the town guimbal, The church is beside the huge huge town plaza, im in awe of the plaza, we can spend the whole afternoon here! fresh air not that hot. My kids love playing on the minipark with slides and monkey bars they had a good time while on the background is the century old guimbal church. For me compared to Miagao, id rather spend long hours taking pictures here. I wonder in the evening what would it be like? and around Christmas? thatll be breathtaking!

Similar to the yellow color of the sun rays used as fences, this church’s facades are also colored, yellow.

This church and the plaza located across the street are truly Guimbal’s famous attractions.

On the way to the well-known UNESCO Miagao Church, we happily saw this additional older church and stopped there on the way back to Iloilo. It's yet another beauty in the realm of Philippine churches.

The Guimbal Church is one of the oldest churches in the country. This yellow sandstone church is made made from adobe stones called igang and coral stones quarried from Guimaras . It was built in 1774 by Father Campos.

The facade is two-stories, flanked by twinned round pilasters that are decorated with floral carvings. The belfry is 4 stories high and doubled as a watchtower to warn against pillaging Moro pirates. The church has undergone some reconstruction after damage sustained during the Second World War and also from the 1948 earthquake. Recently, it was rehabilitated to its original structure.

The exterior carvings, massing, and coloration are very attractive and the view from the adjacent park is inspiring. Definitely worth a stop and a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the local atmosphere.
