Went with friends and walked this area, taking in the history of the old locks and what was once transported through them. The visitor area was informative, but we also met local people who were happy to share their knowledge. Can get a bit muddy so dress appropriately.

There isn't much there- a cafe, the Locks itself, a nice atmosphere and other walkers- but it's enough. I like to come here often, especially for a brisk walk or, if I'm feeling adventurous, I can walk to Caerleon. Overall a nice and often quiet Canal Locks.

Over 200 years ago, this was the most important transport link from the Gwent valleys coalfileds to Newport docks. It is the "Crumlin" branch of the old Monmouth canal. Great for hiking and cycling along well maintained canal paths, forming part of National Cycle route 47 from Newport Transporter Bridge to Fishguard, West Wales. Plenty of wildfowl to admire.

Great Location and a favorite of my kids. We regularly visit, take a stroll and feed the ducks, then stop in the coffee shop for a hot drink and snack. Great to sit back and relax and enjoy life going by. Staff are helpful and polite, prices are reasonable and lunches are always very satisfying. This is a popular meeting... More

It is a very pleasant area to visit. In winter the centre has a very good Father Xmas. In the spring and summer it is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the wildlife. My grandchildren love to fish in the lock and than then have something to meat and drink in the cafe, very enjoyable afternoon out.

A good venue for those walking the Canal towpath. Friendly staff. Good selection of basics for a tea/coffee shop.

Walking the canal locks was a nice walk in the fresh air, visited the tourist centre first to get information and was provided with easy to read information on the canal. We were asked to call back to the cafe on the way back, we purchased to bowls of soup, rolls and tea for our lunch. The staff were extremely... More
