Alor Dive
About
We have opened 365 days a year! ALOR DIVE is located on Alor, one of the many islands of eastern Indonesia. Alor is in the eastern part of the indonesian province Nusa Tengara Timur and is surrounded by more than 61 impressive and, most important, untouchted dive sites. Our dive trips are made with our 2006 newly built 18 m long diving boat which was specially designed with the needs of divers in mind. To explore the underwater world at one of the best diving areas in the world it has space for 14 divers on day-tours or diving safaris with overnight stay on board. It is equipped with GPS, satellite telephone, emergency oxygen, fresh water-tank, toilet, kitchen and much more and has a 120 hp main engine and an additional emergency motor. We use new diving equipment from Mares, long 5 mm wet suits and 10 litre aluminium tanks with optional DIN or INT fittings. Our office is located on the way from the airport into the city-centre of Kalabahi.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm an inexperienced diver who is travelling with an experienced one. I was worried that I would not have much to do when coming to Alor or being alone but Thomas picked great dive sites where I could dive as well and especially snorkel. The coral reefs here are amazing! Being on Thomas' boat and joining the whole day is actually great. We had coffee while watching dolphins play in the water, I sunbathed, snorkled, swam and did some diving almost every day and the scenery from the boat is spectacular. You get to see the surrounding coastal line which you otherwise wouldn't. Thomas knows the area by heart and picks the right sites for you. The lunch provided was yummie and individualised. Vegan? No problem. Gluten intolerant? Don't worry, just let Thomas know beforehand. Great diving, great instructor and great lunch! We would definitely come back.

We have been diving with Thomas for 5 days and really enjoyed the experience. He is very knowledgeable about the dive sites and very relaxed. Moreover we really valued his personal approach to us and to the other customers, definitely one of the most pleasant dive shops we have visited in the years. Organization is different than in big dive operations, very much to our liking. Take into consideration that the diving is not for new divers and Thomas expects you are well aware of yourself and how to behave under water. Speak to Thomas before you arrive to set right expectations.

Difficult dive, strong current and it can be very beautiful or very dangerous depending how it's organised. Unfortunately my experience with Thomas was very bad. I was diving in a group of 9 open water divers together with 2 advanced divers (my wife and me). Just Tomas as dive master. Imagine 12 people drifting in strong current without experience and even some young teenagers. Bad organisation no briefing no explanation and when he's underwater he never check if the group is all together or splitted. He touchs the coral and doesn't show any professionality. It's a pity he runs the only dive center in kalabachi so he can do what he wants without concurrency. Not recommended at all. I am a rescue diver with more than 100 dives experience and never found so bad dive center. Coral in alor is very beautiful but better organize in advance with another dive center.

We didn't book the dives before coming to Alor and Alor Dive was the only one that had places for us but...
Firstly Thomas is the only one dive master and runner of ALOR DIVE in consequence in his ‘’office’’= his house during the day we didn’t find anybody to give us any information and there are not present any PADI/SSI or other indications!!!!
Secondly Thomas is a very unconversable and lonely person. Even I speak English and German he has never made any briefing before diving, just telling the name of the place!!!!
Thirdly on the first dive day we have dived 3 times in a group of 5 people: we 2 (advanced with 90 logged dives at that time), 2 open water divers and 1 Indonesian girl who as we has known from her later was diving (not first time in Indonesia) without any certification! After 25-30 min they all have finished their dive and Thomas has left us alone diving until 50bar or 60min. And until this moment everything was quite ok even we were first day diving in a new place without any dive master.
On the second day we have dived in a group of 9 open water divers and still just one dive master – Thomas! That day we wanted again to dive 3 times. The first dive was the worst dive we have ever had! With a very very strong current without hooks with people who did not know what to do. We were diving deeper (15m) respect the group who stayed at 6m deep but always having an eye contact. Thomas didn't tell us to stay in the group because it could be the strong current so we were diving as the day before but because of the strong current we have lost them all!!! Without knowing where to go, where the current is bringing us and couldn’t dive against the current, we have decided to finish our not safety dive and wait for the boat close to the cost. Other part of the group has finished their dive not much later, many people in panic separated from the group and many of them without safety stop. When the boat picked them up, it started to go away. If not these great people who told to Thomas that there were still missing two people - US - I do not know how it will finish for us. The second dive was an easy dive in a simply dive site.
Finally when we have realized that we were going back we asked Thomas about our third dive. He answered us that there aren't tanks for our third dive. Without telling sorry or giving us any information in advanced!
So I don't recommend to dive with Thomas and Alor Dive as in my opinion is an unprofessional and not safety at all dive center!

One of the best people to dive in alor. Meals, boat and equipment are top notch.
Tomas and his team are extremely professional and know their surroundings very well.

I highly recommend everyone travelling to alor to get in touch with them

Thomas runs his operation with lots of precision. From the hotel pick up time to the expected time of arrival back to the hotel, everything is spot on. Thomas is really a serious guy but sometimes if you're lucky, you might encounter his jokes. His team members are also hardworking and very friendly. Diving is his passion, so he knows his stuff. He will guide you around and show you the critters you're looking for if you ask him.

I was in Alor for diving between 10-14 of November this year.
I made 10 dives in 5 day trips.
The experience was fantastic .......Honestly some of the dives wont be easilly repeated in any other place of the world maybe.
And all these thanks to Alor Dive and Thomas
The time i was there happend to be a low season some how and in some of the trips i was the only guest for diving.
I couldnt imagine that a hole dive trip would be done only for me without paying a private service price...That proves how profesional and honest was Mr. Thomas
I dont think that any other operator will get a massive boat out for diving only for 1 person.
I was feeling shame beeing in a big comfortable boat that made a few trips only for me.The boat by the way is large very clean with very easy entries and exits to and from the water. It was the most comfortable boat i have ever been on in Asia.
Thomas is very honest and helpfull operator really proffesional and very experienced with the dive sites (he knows where to dive and when is the right time to dive).
Thank you very much sir.
I hope that i will have the chance next year to do all of the 40 plus dive sites in Alor

Alor dive was fantastic! Thomas runs his operation like a well oiled machine (a nice change from the norm in Indonesia!). We had 2 days of great diving with a total of 4 separate dive sites and a snorkel stop. The diving is wonderful, the equipment exceptional. Easily accommodates for snorkelling or diving, and different sites for different levels of experience.
