Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In late March 2012 my wife and I visited the Sungai Lembing museum in Pahang, Malaysia.
Sungai Lembing lies 42 km from Kuantan and is easily accessible on a surfaced road, provided one has private transport. For those without their own transport, buses or taxis start from Terminal Kuantan bus. The village currently has 1200 occupants but in its heyday when the mine was fully active had around 20,000. Although the village is somewhat rundown, with many shops closed on the main street, the museum that portrays the history of the mine, is outstanding and free of charge to visitors.
The mine was operated by British companies for almost 100 years until its closure in 1986 when tin prices worldwide plummeted and the British company controlling the mine went into liquidation. Tunnels were built, mainly by hand, to a depth of 2000 ft and covered a total distance of 130 km. Although the tunnels cannot be visited as they are unsafe due to flooding and collapse, the museum exhibits tell everything one would like to know about the history and development of the mine with descriptions in both Malay and English.
The museum which opens every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is situated on a hilltop in what was the former mine manager's accommodation.Allow an hour to one hour and half to view the exhibits.
There are a few local eating places in the village and some basic inexpensive accommodation for those who wish to stay overnight.

Must see when you are at Sungai Lembing. Situated at the hill, the museum itself actually is the PCCL former managers house. Sungai Lembing, being once the largest subterranean mine in the world, had many quaters for it's PCCL staffs. Open daily from 9am to 5pm, free entrance, only closed on Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidil Adha.(Malaysia public holiday).
-The display will make once walking to the history of mining at Malaysia. The underground tunnels were dug manually, with the occasional usage of explosives. Before any mining work undertaken, geologist will identify tin deposits araes to ensure continous operation. The deepest tunnel Myah Mines , is measured 700 metres below ground!! The distance between each tunnel is 30 metres, overall lenght of tunnels is 322 kilometres! Anyway these underground tunnel are unstable and no longer safe to visit, due to disuse, constant flooding and cave-ins. In museum there one mni structure of tunnels.
There are still some miners at Sg Lembing, they are old, around 80years old. Interview with local people than you will find more abount the place. Shop opposite it selling VERY VERY GOOD chicken soup in noodles. reasonable price, RM 4.00per bowl. Also selling Thai food, because owner's wife is Thai.

If you're someone who loves to know about the history of the place, it is good to pay a visit to the museum. You'll know how the town was during their prime era. You'll get to know about the tools used for mining and also get to see the layout of the used to be their manager's house which is now the museum. There's more to it so you guys can just go and experience yourself.

This museum provides a good understanding of the history of the town. It is set in a pretty, historical building and is stocked full of artefacts from the town's mining past.

The town of Sungai Lembing is a museum by itself; the museum is just part of this big large natural museum. From the 7 suspension bridges to the abandoned tin extraction mines, the crystal house to the many old unique kampong houses and ancient old trees, all can be classified as valuable artifacts, not just those that were displayed in the museum.
The museum is located at a hilltop and you can easily find it sitting on a low hilltop the moment you alight from the Rapid Kuantan bus at the bus terminus. The museum is not free admission as locals paid RM2/ while foreigners paid RM5/- for entry into the museum. There are few galleries at the ground floor before you proceed to the second floor to view the rest of the galleries. The lower galleries touched on the history of the tin mines in Sungei Lembing and include artifact display of old lathe machine and the old bicycle used.
I think the museum should be free just like those in Kuching so that more people can see learn more about the glorious past of the town.

We visited Sg Lembing Museum on 9 Aug afternoon after lunch.
This was after we came back from Sg Lembing Rainbow Waterfall.
The exhibits are authentic, salvaged from the early years when Sg Lembing was a booming tin-mine town.
It gives the visitor a quick and condensed history lesson of the heyday of Sg Lembing, of how an industry powered the town, of how jobs & livelihoods were created for the local folks, of how the owners of the tin mine company lived & worked.
This is a great place to understand Sg Lembing for what it was and what it is today.
The exhibits are a gem.
At the end of your trail, there is an air-conditioned cool place.
As we were already quite tired from the trek up Rainbow Waterfall, we rested our tired selves in this cool room and caught up with the latest updates on Facebook via the complimentary WiFi provided by the Museum.

When we visited, there were bus loads of school kids visiting as well. We did not bother to enter the museum even though we paid cos we saw hundreds of pairs of shoes outside on the road. Sorry! Not taking off shoes to go in! So we walked around the museum. Loved the view of Sungai Lembing town from the hill the museum was located.

After the hike, we stopped by at this museum due to the posters around Sg Lembing town. Entrance fee is very minimal
Assessibility
There is a path way going uphill towards the museum after entrance, hence need help for those with walking inconvenience
Verdict
Lovely the simplicity yet effective presentation of Sg Lembing history. Kids enjoyed the educational visit very much.
If lucky to visit when the "sakura-like" tree in blossom, it is really amazing
Do go and visit
