This was a great way to see the workings of the original parliament house. It is fascinating to see the inside of the very small rooms, the old typewriters, cardigans and coats on the backs of chairs, the tiny press gallery area, and the minute radio room. How the parliamentarians and staff existed in this small building for so long... More

Between the lines (the year's best in political cartoons) is becoming a favourite for a visit to Canberra. In a city of many exhibits, it is to walk through an exhibit and hear people laughing out loud in front of many works and visibly challenged by some others as they take in the messages. How quintessentially Australian that in our... More

This museum has an array of well crafted displays depicting the various segments of Australia's political history. It captures your attention far more than many other museums and is a real credit to its staff. Absolutely worth a visit and a tour with one of the informative guides.

A well worthwhile place to visit providing interesting displays and commentaries on our political heritage. Staff are helpful and ready to take questions and provide well informed answers. It is really a must for visitors to Canberra particularly in conjunction with a visit to the contemporary and current Parliament "up the hill".

Fantastic walk through history. You can access parts of the house you can't get anywhere near in the new location. The PM's office, party rooms, Senate Suite. All for a gold coin donation. Was an outstanding surprise.

What a great surprise this museum is. A step back in time where you can learn a lot about the development of democracy in Australia. Nice exhibitions. A must see for everyone interested in Australian political development. Every demcracy should have one like this.

Located in the former Parliament House, this detailed stroll through Australian Democratic history as well as the wonderfully retro old offices of the Prime Minister, Press Gallery and Cabinet is a must for anyone with an interest in politics. Presented as though the offices were left as-is on the day the current Parliament House opened its doors in 1988, its... More

Old Parliament House, or the Museum of Australian Democracy, is one of the best attractions in the ACT. This building drips with history making a guided tour or two a must. Most of the guides worked here during its heydays and share many details that you won't find in even the most detailed books. The exhibition is well constructed, very... More

Great place to take kids to teach them about how Australia's democracy works. Also lovely to see Old Parliament House on all its glory.

We visited Old Parliament House whilst visiting our daughter. She drove us there and said she would pick us up in an hour or so. Five hours later we emerged! There was so much to see and information available. Lots for the children to do too. Very small entrance fee. The adjoining rose gardens are worth a visit too.
