Dont think this is just a memorial. It is one of the best museums in Australia full stop. Complete with full sized recovered submarines, planes and tanks. Relics and information from most well know wars this century.
I visited the war memorial and took a guided tour that was most informative then looked around at leisure at other areas. So much to see so returned for a second day and witnessed changing of the guard and the Last Post ceremonies. Very moving....More
What an excellent and appropriate memorial to the fallen and a reminder of the horrors of war and all the wasted lives .
I found it almost overwhelming and I am not Australian.
Worth coming to Canberra just for this and the adjoining museum .

We did the World War 1 & 2 Tour, it only took 1.5 hours, it was a highly inspiring, educational and memorable experience. The AWM is an incredible place and very interactive, the evolution of our Defence Forces is also fascinating. Lest We Forget!
