War Memorials are never happy places to be! However, the Australian War Memorial provides complete and compelling stories of the work done by Australian troops, Commonwealth troops and the UN forces. The movie displays about WW1, WW2 and the Japanese mini-sub were extremely interesting.

We spent a short time at the AWM during a visit to Canberra. We especially wanted to see the dedication ceremony and hear the playing of the Last Post which takes place at 5pm. The displays, the audio/visual performances are outstanding. So much more than a museum. the respect and dignity shown to the men and women who served their... More

This amazing monument pays tribute to all Australians who died in war. It is mostly focused on WWI and WWII, but there are also tributes to those who died in more recent wars. We came here thinking it was just a monument, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a massive museum inside! We didn't have time to go through... More

My main reason for going to Canberra was the War Memorial. I had been twenty years ago and wanted to go back. I took a guided tour and Gordon was our guide. He did an excellent job. He made history very personal and made some of us almost cry. The tour takes 1,5 hours but flew by. The Australian War... More
