Nice spot, perfect for a family BBQ lunch. Particularly scenic when the autumn leaves turn. Totally rebuilt since it was obliterated by the 2003 bushfires. Cotter dam wall is an awesome sight just 100m away. Extensive kids playground. Dogs prohibited.

The cotter is a good place for a picnic. You will have to bring all your items as there isn't a shop close by. Parking is for free here. I suggest you also walk up to the dam and look and see the information boards they have. If you have a licence you can also fish in the river, but... More

If you have a couple of hours to spare, visit the Cotter Dam, Canberra's water supply. When our group visited, a huge amount of water was coming over the newly completed concrete dam wall. It was quite a sight. There are some well structured walks to viewing points, but you can see it well enough from the car park. It's... More

We took a picnic lunch to the reserve on a pleasant Sunday afternoon in Canberra. B.B.Q facilities and toilets available, but you must take your rubbish home with you!A lovely stroll around the Cotter River is enjoyable, and the lower walkway would be suitable for wheelchairs(I feel)

We stopped off on the way back from Tidbinbilla, and the spillway at Cotter Dam was roaring, there was that much water flowing over it. A great setting, with loads of picnic areas bbq's, and playground. Very good info about the dam & water catchment history. All in a lovely bush setting, with some nice walking tracks too.

We stayed in a site next to the river. It was absolutely beautiful. We loved throwing stones into the river, using the clean bbq's and sitting round the campfire. The amenities were also clean and well maintained. We loved this place!!!

Interesting facts along the way. It had rained the day before and the dam was overflowing, very spectacular. Great for a picnic and playground for the kids. Would be great in summer for a swim.

Nice picnic area and surrounding by trickling water from the dam. Plenty of BBQ, large grass area and playground for younger kids. You can do discovery trail walk, play cricket or just lay on the picnic rug. Plenty of trees to provide shades during warmer days. Be warned that there is no phone reception at all. I'm with Virgin Mobile... More

Was completely taken by the beautiful location of this nature reserve. Perfect ideal place for picnics. Was told that there has been a significant upgrade to the recreational facilities here. There are short walking tracks to the Cotter Dam and along the river, including the Cotter Discovery Trail; picnic tables, BBQ facilities, a children’s playground, disabled access, a new footbridge,...
