Family of two adults and two thirteen year old boys (one autistic) visited Jan 18th This was our second time, having visited two years ago. New overflow car park is great, parked right by new entrance. Only problem was just one ticket window so slow getting in but polite helpful service. Took our own food in esky. Being school holidays,... More

We promised (ok, bribed) our 3 yr old daughter we'd take her to the zoo when she wore big girl undies. The National zoo was perfect for her first trip as it's not as big as Dubbo or Taronga and she could walk it all herself. Well kept premises, plenty of seats and an array of animals. Our daughters favourite?... More

This Zoo is in a great location, plenty of parking. Children and adults will enjoy seeing the animals in their clean well maintained enclosures. Easy to get from one exhibit to another, maps are provided and directions everywhere. You could take a picnic lunch there or buy from the restaurant. A great day for all.

We visited as a family on a very hot day. It was a great few hours well spent despite the weather. The thing I like the most about the zoo is, all the animals are in great conditions and the enclosures are spacious and well setup. The day we visited, they had the dingo walk on, it was great for... With international guests visiting, we reluctantly decided to revisit the zoo, knowing that it had been refurbished since the last time I was there 15 years ago (when it was rubbish). Well, it's still rubbish. Extremely expensive, uninspiring exhibits (we couldn't even find the snow leopard), amateur and boring aquarium, and I had to walk into a sort of "backstage... More

Hi jazzmuso7, I note that your visit was almost 12 months ago. While a lot has happened in the zoo in that time. For example we have updated our caterer since your visit and the feedback about the quality and value of the Cafe food has been very positive. It's unfortunate that you feel our exhibits are uninspiring and the... More

This was an overpriced place to visit. $40 each for a 45 minute visit. We didn't stay long because of the heat and no events. We were disapointed that during school holiday time there were no presentations held throughout the day we were there, and the special animal experiences were not offered. If we had of known this we probably... More

Hi laurenwillow, we can understand that you didn't stay long due to the heat. Canberra and indeed many parts of Australia are experiencing a very warm spell at present, however it is confusing that you mention that there were "no presentations held throughout the day" - This is incorrect. We hold 10 Keeper Talks every day during School Holidays starting... More

As zoos go it is good. It is still expanding. There are lots of feeding times to watch and animal encounters to be had. If you go in the summer, go in the morning or late afternoon. The animals will hide away in the heat.

I was unsure about what to expect from this tour, after different comments from friends telling us that you only get to feed the animals through the cage. However I was very happy with my whole experience. To begin with our guide, Ty, was polite, knowledgeable and clearly very passionate and excited to be in his job. His customer service... More
