About
Discover the iconic Big Banana, a must-visit gem born from the vision of John Landi in 1964. Seeking to captivate passing traffic, he drew inspiration from Hawaii's "Big Pineapple" and, with the help of local engineer Alan Chapman and a 1200-pound investment, turned the idea into reality. Constructed by builder Alan Harvey, The Big Banana, Australia's first "Big Thing," opened its doors on December 22, 1964. Today, The Big Banana has evolved into a vibrant Fun Park, proudly featuring the largest Water Park between Sydney and the Gold Coast, an Ice Skating Rink, Toboggan Ride, "The World of Bananas" theatre, Laser Tag arena, 36-hole Mini Golf Course, the country's biggest Giant Slide "The Racer," Go Bananas Fun Zone, 4D Ride Simulator, Gift Shop, Going Bananas Cafe, Candy Making Kitchen, Opal Centre, Steve McEwans Reptile World and more. Experience "a whole bunch of fun" at The Big Banana Fun Park!

- MapsnMemories22 contributionsFun family firsts at the Big BananaAdding a visit to the Big Banana turned out to be a surprising favourite highlight for our family road trip. Attractions we visited: Giant slide: Five star fun! The considerable trek up the hill to get to the top of the slide was absolutely worth it. Good indoor activity. Our kids who don't love heights put their fear aside and had smiles ear to ear on this! Toboggan: Five star fun! Terrific experience, scenic views. Tip: Drive up to the top carpark to get a photo of the course to go with the photos and videos you may take on the toboggan. 4D experience: We'd rate this four stars. Long waiting times overall, especially to get our family of four to be seated all together for a session. (7 seats were open for each session on the day we visited.) We were worried we wouldn't fit our two sessions in during our visit. Didn't realise the session times rotate i.e. you can't pre-plan which session to do; it's luck of the draw for what is on when your group gets to the top of the line, unless you keep forgoing your turn until you get into a show you want. We saw Dino Safari 2 and Canyon Coaster, which turned out to be our favourite. It's a pricey experience, and if I visited again, I would give this a miss and opt for a third go on the slide and toboggan for us all. Tip: we found the queues much faster in the late afternoon when alot of visitors had left. Things to note: *We bought a three-attraction combo. It came as a bundle of paper tickets, one for each ride (i.e. for us, 8 x tickets to the slide, 8 x tickets to the toboggan, 8 x tickets to 4D experience). Apparently these never expire, so if you don't get to complete all of the activities on your visit, you can use them at another time in the future. *No booking times required for any of our activities (I wasn't sure about this from looking at the website). Just arrive and join a queue at each activity. Overall: Appreciated the convenient parking. Took the obligatory photo in front of the Big Banana. Was a considerable cost for our visit but when we broke it down, the price per person was reasonable. Thanks for the opportunity to make some fun memories for our family! Thanks for the wonderful review! We're glad you found our Fun Park affordable and well worth the value. - Dan KLake Munmorah, Australia7 contributionsFun but be cautiousWas a great day apart from the wife copping a nice bruise to the side of the head when she got thrown sideways at the bottom of the middle drop down slide. All the others were great but that drop down slide can shoot you sideways into the wall down the bottom if you’re not careful. Toboggan was fun but not long enough and you can get caught behind people going too slowWe're thrilled to hear you had a great time! We're sorry to hear your wife had a little bump. - Daniel3 contributionsGreat fun but warning re online ticketsGreat water park for our 6 and 4 year olds, something for everyone, also the giant slide is great fun but I don't recommend the bumper cars. Only downside is disorganised ticket system. We purchased tickets on line to save the que but ended up being sent to the main entrance and the biggest que to sort the tickets. So thrilled to hear you had a great time! We appreciate your feedback and are working to improve our ticket system. - Mairwen1United Kingdom11,690 contributionsThe Quirky Australian Penchant for Big ThingsLike Vegemite and and Tim Tams, ’big things’ are a quirky Australianism. Just why Australians have a penchant for big things is a mystery but they have become synonymous with a NSW coastal road trip. We therefore kept an eye out for the Big Banana as we passed through Coffs Harbour. It sits prominently alongside the highway. Heading north, it’s on your left just after the Coffs Harbour township. Even if you don’t stop, it’s easy to see from your car. According to some, the Big Banana was the first of these giant novelty sculptures. 13m long and 5m high, it was created in 1964 by an enthusiastic banana plantation owner who was keen to boost sales of bananas at his roadside stall. He exceeded his wildest dreams. Nowadays The Big Banana has a banana themed souvenir shop, a giant slide, and a water and fun park attached to it. You pay an entry fee for these but you can take your banana photo for free. Big Banana done. Next stop - Ballina and the Big Prawn. Thanks for the wonderful review!! - Rohit GuptaBrisbane, Australia546 contributionsThe cafe is eye gouging expensiveThe first thing is that its a tad expensive, just like Australia Zoo. The cafes are even worse. $60 for a cup of coffee, a cup of tea and two salads is expensive. In the salad, the pumpkin should have been war, and there was too much vinegar or bbq sauce. It was hard to ell, it so think. I hated the dressing. There was a lot leaves and cucumber, but not much else. They were mingy with their tea. One small teabag and one cup of water in a 3 cup pot. Categorically, no one else has served just one cup of tea, ever. Because of the mismatch in size and contents, the tea was way too cold.Thank you for the feedback, we will definitely take this on board and review our prices.Written 4 December 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 August 2024

This has changed so much from the original theme and is now a tourist attraction and amusement park with a downhill toboggan ride, ice skating rink, XD Theatre, Ice Rink, Mini Golf, Giant Slide, Laser Tag, a water park and World of Bananas Educational Experience. Not worth it ..you pay more than what you will pay for Luna park in Sydney and than realize most of the events in the park start late even when you reach at 9:30 AM and start time of the park is 9 AM and they all close early ice skating closed before 4 , giant slide also closes fast so even when you buy a full park ticket you cannot experience all the things they have because of the limited hours they operate … water park was another disappointment ..it has restricted time of operations and it a water park with no pool !!! Not even toddler pool ..even for kids so only way you can touch and feel water when you are on slides which is not possible always so you are in water park standing out in sun between slides …seen first water park with NO pool and size of water park is also very small … even free public water parks in Sydney are bigger …in last one hour from 4 to 5 PM there is hardly anything open in park and end up playing video games which you could have done in any shopping mall … not living up to the expectation of a good theme parks …

Thank you for taking the time to review The Big Banana Fun Park.
We offer varying operating times for some of our attractions when we are not in School Holiday periods which must have been when you visited us.
We also need to have breaks in areas such as the Water park and Ice Skating rink to allow time to deep clean the areas to ensure we remain a Covid Safe Business at all times.
As of this Saturday 19th December you can enjoy ALL of the attractions by purchasing one of our Unlimited Passes for $59 p/child & $69 p/adult from 9am-5pm which is a very competitive rate that you will not find anywhere else on the Coffs Coast.
All the best to you and your family for the Holiday Season.

My kids and I always stop at the big banana every time we pass through or stay in Coffs Harbour. We love it. However, this time around the experience was totally different. The way the two young girls spoke to us and the treatment was received was shocking. To the point the girls actually had a laugh out loud as soon as we left.
We wanted to checkout the 4D ride, however, we were very rudely told that we had to buy a daily pass (almost $200) to use just one ride... no exception. There was no other way because it’s school holidays. What made me more sad is the way the two young girls were being condescending and rude towards my self whilst I was with my 8 and 10 year old.. so unfortunate that people like that with no manners and professionalism stay employed in a recession where unemployment is on the rise. The two young girls in the ticketing office are both a bad look for the big banana theme park. They are undeserving, rude and not fit to work in a place where customer service is key!

Good Afternoon AJ_Barikzai
Due to the Covid restrictions and guidelines that were placed upon our fun park for the NSW school holidays we were only able to offer a full day pass to ensure we were not going over our daily visitor limits which is why you couldn't experience our 4D theater on its own.
We certainly appreciate your feedback and this is not the way our staff are trained to interact with our customers.

Visited during the week (non peak) and it wasn't quiet but certainly wasn't busy. We found the prices to be very reasonable - we chose 3 activities (mini golf, toboggan and banana tour). It is great how you can be flexible in what activities you want to do when and just make the day your own. Also there is no entry fee, its paying for the activities you want to do so you can do as much or as little as you like. We did the toboggan which was a bit of fun, you get two rides so if you don't get time on one day to do both, just come back another day. The mini golf wasn't too challenging but a good 20-30 mins to fill in. Would be great if it was more banana themed! Our biggest disappointment was the tour. I remember coming to the big banana 20 years ago and there was a great guided tour where you heard about the whole process which was interesting. It has now been reduced to a very dated (albeit interesting) presentation in the theatre and a 5 minute wander through the very short path through the plantation. It really would be nice to have more of a focus on the bananas but I guess the money is in the rides/attractions so this side has been left to fall on the wayside. Can recommend a visit, it's certainly an enjoyable couple of hours and the flexibility of the entry and rides makes it a good option for most.

We only visited the gift shop and opal store. Opal shop was good with some nice designs but on the pricey side. They were however willing to barter for lower prices if you had cash. The main gift shop has heaps of tourist gifts in offer for pretty reasonable prices.

This attraction needs to more honest and up front about the ticketing conditions and pricing. We payed online for 5 unlimited tickets for kids as us 2 adults did not want to go on anything.( over $300)
Upon arrival we were informed we had to purchase to unlimited adults tickets also otherwise we would not be permitted entry. (An extra $140)!!!!!!
And all there advertising states” free entry” numerous times

Good Morning CoryandFred
Due the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic we were given strict guidelines by the Federal and State Government on how many visitors we were permitted to have in the park at any one time, we also needed to be able to produce a list of guest names if we were audited or if we ended up with a positive Covid-19 case - which thankfully did not happen anywhere on the Coffs Coast. We did our best to change all of our marketing material prior to school holidays.

This is the second visit to the place and it is still as fun as the first time. The food is good and the park itself is filled with great activities. I would recommend getting the unlimited day pass, which covers access to most of the attractions. Activities include toboggan, water park, giant slide, ice skating, mini golf and others. Highly recommended

We visit the Big Banana Fun Park regularly during school holidays and it always exceeds our expectations. The staff are really friendly and helpful, always taking time to make the kids feel welcome and comfortable. There are so many fun attractions, we can easily spend the entire day there! The food in the cafe is excellent and well priced, our children always say they have the best burgers in town! They also have the yummiest banana smoothies that you will ever have!
We had our son’s 7th birthday party there this year and the staff went above and beyond to make his day special. I could not recommend the park enough for a party or for a day out with the family. Make sure you also visit Reptile World, Steve and Adam are amazing with the kids and the kids absolutely loved the up close and personal experience with the reptiles.

Great atmosphere, food at the cafe was great however that was about as good as it got for us. For the price you pay $69 per adult and $59 for a child, for a family of 6 it adds up so you would expect it to be awesome, but it wasn't, the lines were extremely long to the point we were there for nearly 6 hours and didn't even get to go on all 8 attractions, kids under 3 could've even go onto the toddler water park. If I could redo the day I would just stop at the visitors centre and had lunch only.

The NSW School Holiday Peak Period is a very busy time for a Fun park such as ours.
We offer the Unlimited Passes at this time to ensure we are not exceeding our capacity limits.
From 9am-5pm we would expect that you would certainly have enough time to do all of our attractions.
Perhaps you were here on one of the days we were completely Sold out.

We visited during the spring holidays when you coukd only buy daily unlimited passes. At first I thought the tickets were a bit expensive but after spending almost 6 hours there I must say it's ahm absolute fair price for what you get. My 5 and 7 year old had such a blast, with ice skating being their favourite activity which came as a surprise to me. Would definitely recommend it. Only watch out, there's height restrictions and if you're under a specific height you're quite limited in what the kids can do by themselves or at all.

Up visiting the kids Grandparents place in the local area of Coffsharbour, we came long distance travel, called into the big banana a few times, Soviener shops and cafe all great, however very disapointed with the Waterpark section , our young daughter really wanted to go to this waterpark, Good points first great slides for the Adults however were really godsmacked disapointed at the fact that only 1 things our son could do was the splash up fountains, with a kids waterslide and tip bucket there for kids over 3+ Caravan parks let you go on these and waterslides but here is an understatement, and why was there 2 jumping castles for over 3+ and not catering for young toddlers, We found it hard for our son 1+ to hold him back from the amusements cause he was trying to follow his sister and we watched other families struggle to hold there childeren back, why doesn't cater for toddlers or provide a jumping castle or something for there age. out of frustration we took our son on the kids waterslide and yes were told to take him off, then i complained to the staff of all that we found and were told that they will have to bring it up with the manager, my daughter lost interest in the waterpark very quickly cause of the rules and regulations not having her little brother with her, so i wouldn't recomend this water park for kids uner 3+ , people travel long distances and not usually have babsitters with them, its the fact have to hold toddlers and back and not having things to do while they are in the waterpark, doesn't cost that much for another jumping castle for under 3+ surly. think about it manager just a suggestiion or thought. we were a family 2 Adults and 2 children ages 4 and 1

Thank you for your feedback,
We are actually doing an extension in the Water Park which will give little kids a bit more to do.
The age limits are not made by us but by the manufacturer so we have to adhere for safety reasons.
That is also why we do not charge any entry fee for kids under 3 years old.
