Sydney Fish Market (SFM) is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the world's second largest seafood market in terms of variety outside of Japan. A working fish market, SFM sources product both nationally and internationally and trades over 14,500 tonnes of seafood annually - with up to a hundred species traded every day.SFM employs approximately fifty-seven staff to organise the weekday wholesale auction, promote Sydney Fish Market as the centre of seafood excellence and operate the Sydney Seafood School. Since opening in 1989, Sydney Seafood School has played an important part in persuading Sydney residents to eat more fish. The School is considered to be one of Australia’s leading cooking schools. Over 13,000 people come to classes each year. Visit the SSS pages for more information or to book a class.Onsite, SFM hosts six seafood retailers, a bottle shop, fruit and veg market, bakery, sushi bar, restaurants, gift shop and deli.If you would like to organise a 'Behind The Scenes' tour of our wholesale auction, please call or email us during business hours (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday).

It is impossible to imagine the variety of seafood and fish you can find here. Where else you can find so much? Only in the ocean. The place is a must to visit!!!

There are lots of stalls selling seafood. But seems to have more of a eating section where they prepare the food and sell it to you. From sashimi to cooked seafood. Oysters, scallops, sashimi, sushi rolls, baked seafood. Price was pretty reasonable. There is also a market selling fruits at the back. There is a stretch of seats outside, with... More

A great place to visit and see all the wonderful fresh Australian seafood. It is only a market so it can be very busy and not the best place to eat. I would recommend buying your food and eating elsewhere like the locals do. Even if you are not buying seafood it is still very interesting to look at all... More

Very crowded but worth the visit. All sorts of seafood from sushi to exotic delicacies at very affordable prices. Seating wasn't a problem and you could buy a wine from the liquor store at an affordable price. Cleaning staff keeps the tables cleaned at all times. Well worth a visit

I had never been to the fish market before. We caught the light rail from Central to Fish Market stop and walked to Wentworth Park stop afterwards which was probably a bit easier. There was a big carpark and there were spots at 11.30 on a Monday. We would have had to take the car to buy seafood to take... More

Great if you want to buy fish - get there around 8am, buy your fish and leave before the tourist buses start arriving. If you are wanting to eat there , it is a dump. Overrun with thousands of tourists in organised groups - the cooked seafood is not very good quality ; far too few places to sit ;... More

If you want to have the best seafood of that day, the first step is to arrive as early as you can. We arrived Fish Market around half past eight in the morning. Some of the shop were preparing for the seafood at that time. There were different types of seafood for us to choose than the country I live... More

Tourist haunt, good selection of fresh seafood but most of the stalls sell similar seafood. Oyster selection was disappointing. Found some wonderful sashimi prawns. Limited choice of cooking styles. Great with BYO but outside area by the sea needs upgrading and maintenance. Good to visit once.

It was great to walk around to different stands and try new things. I was surprise there's also a fresh produce section. The only fault is the bathrooms are not well maintained. I'm glad I visited because I had the best salmon ever here.
