An afternoon sauntering through the gardens was a lovely gentle time. Lots to see from parrots in the trees, eels in the pond!

These gardens are well maintained from top to bottom! Awesome place to wander around and see what is in bloom given the time of year of your visit. You can picnic, run, walk or just hang out and watch the world go by... Well signed- so very easy to navigate. Helpful staff should you need any assistance. A wonderful Asian... More

Located next to the Sydney Opera House, this is a great way to spend a few hours taking in the harbor views, admiring the beautiful plants & critters roaming the grounds…and best of all--it’s FREE! A must do in Sydney. Walkways are nicely paved; easy walks and there’s so much to see. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water on hot... More

Wonderful horticultural specimens with good detailed info on the origins of some. We spent over an hour wandering around and could have spent more time if we had it. Nice and relaxing despite being in such a prominent position. Some of the trees are breathtaking in size and shape, and there are plenty of cockatoos and other birds to spot.... More

Since our hotel was a quick walk to the gardens and on the way to the harbour, we walked the park a few times. . First I would call this more of a park than a botanic garden. It lacked the assortment of plants and flowers that I normally see in other gardens I've visited. The grounds were very nice... More

After long walks and taking pictures in front of the Opera House, chilling at The Royal Botanic Gardens is a good idea. Review your pictures or just read a book while sitting on the grass and taking a glimpse at the calm body of water in front of you.

The walk was beautiful getting to see all of the trees, herbs and blowers while being right by the water. Unfortunately, I went on a very hot day and didn't get as much relief from trees as I had hoped.

Check your schedule if you want to see the greenhouses, which are only open on certain days. Otherwise, spend a few hours walking among the well established specimens of subtropical flora. There is even a cafe to rest for coffee and light meals.

We decided to have a long walk considering the amount of wood we consumed the previous night and so glad we did. In one word "Peaceful" you will love it.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
