A family friendly afternoon

Spent a relaxing afternoon on the beach. Enjoyed the rock pool off to the side and walking along the sand.

We are new to Sydney and last minute on a Sunday we thought we'd do some exploring and found a recommendation for Coogee Beach from good old Trip Advisor! So off we went and we had a great day! Plenty of walking paths around the coastline which were all accessible with the pram. Lots of open fields, trees and table... More

Lovely beach, shops and good restaurants nearby. Parking can be challenging at times. Plenty sea shells and weeds.

Went to Coogee on a Sunday morning, sunny, windy, cold, forgot sunscreen and got burn (damn it! - lesson learned). The sand is very clear and clean, it includes no sea shells. There is a nice covered place where families were sit waiting and watching the kids on Life Guard trainning.

The beach was a little smaller than other good beaches in sydney. The waves were good. Does get a little crowded and that was a little off.

Coogee beach is a great to visit with plenty to do and see. The waves are pretty tame when compared with the surrounding beaches. The local are helpful and aren't as rude as people in Bondi! One of the best places to go while you are there is melon head on Coogee Bay road. There smoothies can't be beat. If... More

This beach is a little smaller, and seems to have mainly locals going to it. It's a great little beach. A great to place to go for picnics/hanging out, and again if you are not a confident swimmer, stick between the flags. The surf lifesavers are there for good reason! I'm a confident swimmer, and the tide took me back.

Staying in Coogee

Neighbourhood Profile
Coogee
Very accessible by public transport, Coogee is the smaller, friendlier, more intimate version of Bondi Beach. Coogee is the only beach in the Eastern suburbs that does not have big waves, making it an excellent family beach. The Coogee Bay Hotel, located right across the beach, has one of the biggest beer gardens in Australia and plenty of entertainment every night of the week. Be on the lookout for celebrity footballers! A little further south is Wylie’s Baths, offering sweeping 180 degree views over the Pacific Ocean, and it is perfect for a swim or a few laps. Plenty of dining choices surround the beach, including the famous fish and chips.
