Garden island itself is an active Navy base, access restricted. However, the northern end is open to the public, best access is by ferry. It is very peaceful as it does not get a lot of visitors. It is nice just to walk around, some...More

A trip to the Garden Island Naval base is a great half or full day out for the kids (big or small) as they gain an appreciation of our Naval history. Great views of Sydney Harbour and the cafe is worth stopping at for a...More

Spent a few hours here looking at the memorabilia and taking in the scenery...could do with some improvements outside of the museum - which is fantastic. Cafe open during the week, toilets available, can use public or private ferries to get here.

Surely the Australian navy has a greater heritage than is on display here in a small and Franklyn tedious museum largely filled with trophies and non conflict related memorrabilia. The cafe is nice however

Love this place due to my background. It is a naval base but the public cannot access the base obviously. The public area is a naval museum and gardens. An oasis of calm with great views across the Harbour. Good cafe as well. Probably need...More

Take the ferry from Circular Quay. If you're lucky you will virtually have the museum to yourself. It's pretty straightforward naval stuff. Nice to be greeted by the sight of a Montague whaler - shame it's loitering in a museum and not getting sailed. The...More
