Your host is Richard Everett, the only Oenologist (or winemaker) conducting a small group or private wine tour of the Hunter Valley Wine Country. His guests get a unique behind the scenes insight into how the best wines of the Hunter Valley are made, with private guided tastings of the top wines at the best & most interesting of the 140+ wineries. Richard conducts the wine tastings, not the sales staff at the wineries, so you are spared the heavy sales pitch of their commercial wines & get to experience many wines not offered to the general public. Morning tea is at the famous Peppers Guesthouse & lunch is at the award winning Muse Cafe. Tours are available ex Sydney or from within the Hunter Valley.

Richard picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Sydney central. We visited 2 Hunter Valley cellar doors which were very different - Tyrell's which has a lot of history, and Hungerford Hill that is very modern. We enjoyed the pace very much. Taking time to taste the wines, getting to know the whys and the hows... More

My wife and I were looking for a Hunter Valley wine tour which was a bit more about the history and processes rather than visiting as many vineyards as possible and getting drunk...luckily we found Wine Country Tours. Richard - our host, comedian and fountain of knowledge (what Richard doesn't know about wine, the regions around the world and the... More

Richard was an excellent host who made our visit very enjoyable. He possesses an incredible knowledge of the wine industry which made for some very enlightening conversations. We visited some of the top wineries in the Hunter, had a fantastic lunch at Muse Kitchen and learned lots. I'd definitely recommend Richard to anyone keen to learn about wine and experience... More

Richard picked us up in Sydney. My wife, Lisa, and I enjoyed the informative and comfortable drive to the Hunter Valley. The subsequent tour and lunch were all that one would ask. Very useful introduction to Australian wines with focus on HV. Richard trained and worked in oenology and has a grasp of his subject. Discussed California and Oregon wines... More

My husband and I enjoy wine tasting when we travel, and we liked that this tour went more in-depth into the wine styles of the Hunter Valley at a few quality wineries instead of cramming as many as possible into the day. Richard is a knowledgeable host, and the side-by-side tasting method he used helped illustrate the differences among the... More

My mate and I are fairly new wine consumers. Richard tailored our visit so perfect matching to our level of expertise. Even though we were learning throughout the entire day, it felt more like we were enjoying good company more than being lectured. Great environment to enjoy each other and of course the astonishing scenery! 5/5 to Richard for an... More

The wine tour to Hunter Valley is one of the highlights on our first visit to Sydney. Although I have some knowledge and interest specially in Australian wine, Richard is definitely an expert and a very great teacher and tour guide. We are lucky to choose this private tour with a few guys from Queensland and Taiwan. Very educational and... More

We visited Hunter Valley on 14th of June with Richard. It was the first wine tasting tour for 4 of us. There were 11 people total on this trip including Richard. He picked different parties up in different locations in Sydney with his Toyota van. It took about 2 hours to get to the destination and we had a breakfast... More

Although a bit tardy with this review, the memory has definitely not diminished. My daughter and I toured with Richard back in May. It was wonderful - very well organized, quite informative and simply lovely. The two wineries were delightful, the terrain beautiful, and the wine spectacular. I especially enjoyed the way the tasting was set up, and that we... More

We attended a Hunter Valley wine tour in March. From the moment we boarded the van it was relaxed and enjoyable. We picked up several other parties so that there were a total of 11 on the trip. Richard provides lots of small details on the journey up to Hunter Valley about the areas we were driving through. As we... More
