We visited in January. The first weekend we went there it was still closed for the Christmas and New Year holiday. We went back the next weekend on a Sunday - and they were not offering tours - but instead we were able to walk through the house on our home to a limited number of rooms. They had staff... More

The Government House is located within the Royal Botanical Gardens, before the city's most iconic landmark - Sydney Opera House. It is a historic castle-liked building in a large greenery compound and you will not miss it if you are in the area. There are lots of flowers and trees and one can feel the call of nature in a... Gardens are badly managed, over grown trees and lawn and tree branches fell all over, most of the rooms in this building you can't even visit, and its extremely hard to get to this building as there is no decent public transport close by and there is no car park. Whole place is really not a big deal, waste of... More

Just chanced upon this great opportunity to have a guided tour through this wonderful home and building. Our cruise ship had parked for the day last Friday at Circular Quay and we took the opportunity to stroll through the Botanical Gardens. As we passed the entrance to Government House, we say that there were free tours offered. We enquired and... More

A rare historic grand building in Australia located in a position that can't be bettered. I'd make it a must-see on a Sydney itinerary.

The site is accused by guided tour (bring photo id). Our guide was very informative and helpful and the rooms absolutely fantastically decorated and maintained. A good insight into the history and governance of NSW and some fascinating contrasts with properties and decor of similar period in UK

Lucked out going to the government house. We were on our way to the opera house when we sort of "lost our way" and ended up at the government house. There was a marathon event going on and it was open to the public that day. Beautiful garden with amazing views!

I was third time lucky, after being turned away twice (due to last minute changes to the Government House operations schedule), I finally snagged a coveted slot in the Government Slot. Just show up about 30 minutes before the first tour that starts at 1030am at the guard house. My guide, Karl is very knowledgeable at the space, despite being... More

This house of a little castle style is a hidden gem in Sydney's Botanic Gardens! It's definitely worth having a look for its lovely architecture. Open every day, free admission, tours start every half an hour and the guides are very knowledgeable!

Went here and joined the free tour. Great tour guide who was very knowledgeable and full of great stories. Beautiful well kept house still used by encumbent Governor General when in Sydney. Gardens are spectacular. Great views from some of the windows up the harbour towards Manly. Well worth a visit.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
