What an incredible privilege to experience this special space. The main exhibition changes 2-3 times a year but Whiteley’s studio remains as he left it. The main exhibition was his Italian period featuring lovely earthy colours. The volunteer was knowledgeable and friendly. This is by...More

I've wanted to come here for ages, but this is the first time I've been in roughly the right place at the right time (opening hours are very limitied, check the website). The huge painting that is the main attraction really is incredible, I think...More

The Brett Whitely Gallery is located in an unassuming lane in Surry Hills, but is a lovely building inside with a great collection of his works and fascinating insight into his life and creative mind. The highlight has to be his studio which has remained...More

My daughter and I have now visited twice and seen different exhibitions. The artwork is beautifully displayed and seeing Whiteley's studio space is fantastic. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It's well worth finding this studio and it's free!

I hadn't known anything about Brett Whiteley's work (or life), but a friend in Melbourne told me that I must visit the studio when I was to be in Sydney. And now I can advise anyone else who gives a fig about art not to...More

Exceptional privilege to go through the door by BW's famous 'giant matchsticks', and to enter his world. Yes it's a tidied-up gallery space, with a re-ordered upstairs studio/bedding area - but importantly it is Brett Whiteley's space, filled with his Art, changing exhibitions, handwritten quotes/notes/photos...More

Truly special. Brett Whitely was a very highly talented Australian artist and this is a beautiful tribute to his work as an artist. I love the birds and they are drawn, painted, characturised and stuffed. I visited when there was an exhibition called West of...More
