The area

Neighbourhood: Darling Harbour
The original docklands of Darling Harbour have been transformed into a tourist mecca with entertainment for the whole family. Cockle Bay Wharf offers dining options from budget to upscale and million dollar views of the harbour. Young crowds gather on weekends for nightlife that ranges from salsa clubs to Dj’s. Families can visit the Chinese Gardens of Friendship or the Sydney Aquarium, one of the largest in the world. The Sydney Maritime Museum and the IMAX theatre are also popular attractions. The Harbourside Shopping Centre is a site unto itself, with hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars. On Saturdays in the summer, the city puts on a spectacular fireworks show along the harbour's shore and there are plenty of other free events during the year - Darling Harbour Fiesta, VIVID’s light installations and the Sydney Festival, just to name a few.

    Awesome insight to Australian wildlife
Brilliant small zoo of just Australian wildlife: koalas, platypus, kangaroos, crocs, wombats, tassie devils, cassowary, lots of birds, lots of insects, lots of reptiles, all up close. Loved it! Contrary to a couple of the reviews here, although the zoo is small, I saw no indication of classic stressed animal behaviour, and the animals seemed well-accustomed to people.
G'Day Barry, Thank you so much for your AMAZING review! We are so stoked to hear that you enjoyed meeting all of our WILDLIFE residents and hopefully you learnt something new about their incredible adaptations and behaviours as well! We hope to see you again for another adventure! Cheers, WILD LIFE Sydney Team

    Surprisingly good
Right on the harbour side next to the sealife centre. Looks expensive but for an ethical zoo in the city it’s pretty good value. There is a trail up through the zoo, a bit like sealife centres. Overall not a lot of animals but we saw most of them. Highlights were the tree kangaroo, snakes, crocodiles, platypus and the koalas. Keepers very happy to talk about the animals. Great to see the Koalas close up.

    Adorable Animals and Superb Staff!!
We came and had a wonderful experience visiting all the animals and engaging with your lovely staff. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the animals and in-particular the Australian animals that we can’t see back in the UK. A lady in particular called Adele who is from Brazil and can speak numerous languages was so lovely. She is a credit to your company and she was on her break and still engaged with us for quite a long time and answered all of our questions on the animals. Spent pretty much all day on your premises and would definitely recommend visiting here to all animal lovers and anyone who loves their animals. This was a Birthday celebration we had been waiting over 3 years to celebrate and visiting here was probably the highlight of the day and one of the highlights of my holiday!!

    Fantastic
Couldn’t decide between this and taragona zoo. This was absolutely perfect for what we wanted - the koalas are GORGEOUS. We just wanted to see the main Aussie animals - kangaroos, wombats, Tasmanian devils, crocs and koalas and this place didn’t disappoint. Have been to many zoos and seen animals sleeping in the distance but this is very close and hands on - LOVED IT

Christmas with the Crocs and Koalas
Sydney on the 25th of December... what was open, this Zoo! Got in early before the crowds... and boy, did they came. My only gripe about entering, and the entire visit, is the walkway. It is a bit to tiresome for someone pushing a grown person on a wheelchair, maybe add some space for rest stops so we don't hinder the line. With that aside, the zoo gave a cozy feeling and then it just wows. Small turns for some areas but it gets wide for the featured animals. Some of the lizards, they were already looking at us before we spotted them, cool and he wombats, very cute. Personal favorites were the Crocodile Billabong and the Koala Rooftop. The crocodiles were active that day and they really look menacing on the water. As for the Koalas, they made this Christmas Day more special as they were also very active when we there for pictures and snacks, even though we were told they sleep for almost 20hrs per day. Hope the photo kiosks get a good maintenance soon as some of them were on the fritz, but luckily, team members were glad to assist us.

    Tasmanian Devil – Fab!
Wild LIFE; good selection of wildlife (especially kangaroos) I wouldn't expect, at Darling Harbour. Busy but interesting; dusty trail to see kangaroos; tiptoed past Tassie Devil (manic 'whooosh'-tornado in cartoon- memory), sleeping koalas; cassowary (related to kiwibird) – very cool. Limited time, perfect, close to everything, pretty special. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.)
Hi Jacquitohc! Thank you so much for your PAW-SOME review! We are so glad to hear that you had a brilliant time at WILD LIFE! We are so stoked to hear that you got to meet our Aussie animals up close and personal and that our attraction was accessible in terms of location and walking distance! We hope to see you back again soon! Cheers, WILD LIFE Sydney Team

WildLife Sydney Zoo is not a zoo by most meanings of the word. It's not an open, spacious area, but a small, closed place. Located in the tourist hotspot of Darling Harbour, this is next door to Madame Tussauds and the Aquarium. I took a combined ticket for all three.

The Zoo has the native Australian mammals and marsupials, so for those who can't make it to the real Taronga Zoo or other wildlife parks, this is a quick way to get a glimpse of these remarkable creatures. However, for such a small place, the fun factor is not quite there. One can be in and out of here within 30-45 minutes and for the rather high ticket price, it's not really good value.

If you want to see the animals that are unique to Australia then this is the place for you. The zoo is small but home to a wonderful collection of rare animals and the keepers give some really interesting talks about the animals. It was great to see the Tasmanian Devils Topsy and Babs and about the animals plight in the wild. The Gruffalo trail is great for the little ones. One complaint, You really need to sort out your ticketing as there was enormous queues for the Sealife Centre but it meant there was confusion over getting tickets for the other attractions and because we had to use the machine we could not use or Big Bus Discount. Sad really because this is the second time we have visited and the ticketing has got worse.

Breakfast with the Koalas! What a fantastic morning. With your ticket you receive early entrance to the Wild Life Sydney Zoo where a staff member takes you throughout the zoo and provides great information on all the zoos critters. Included with our ticket was breakfast surrounded by Koalas and pictures next to these adorable animals. The staff was professional, friendly and answered every question we had. Well worth the cost and I got to check off a visit with Koalas from my bucket list.

While this experience was fun, and worth it for the price, I don’t recommend going if you are headed up to the Gold Coast. For us Sydney was first on the list, and we didn’t plan to go to another zoo, however once we did we realised how sub par this one was. The entire zoo took us about an hour, as it was very small. It was nice as it was inside, but that limited the space for the animals to live and ultimately for us to view them. The photo attached was the most “open” area of the exhibits.

This is the third time we have been to WILD LIFE however it's the first time that I've thought to write a review. We used attraction vouchers from the golden arches on this occasion however would recommend to visitors to buy the multi-attraction pass for the value.

The zoo is aimed at children more than adults. Although a fun day out can be had by all, there are many things such as small observation areas that you have to climb into which loses the novelty for some.

The keeper talking about the kangaroos was lovely. She'd obviously worked with animals for some time and was passionate about her job. The same thing but with the wombats (as an example) would be a good idea so we could learn more about a bigger range of native animals.

Paying for the koala photos seems to only get you on the other side of a perspex wall. This isn't something that we've felt the need to do however some people may be put off by the fact that it doesn't actually include holding a koala.

A good idea for something to do in Sydney however perhaps not worth travelling for especially.

Hi KittyBean! We really appreciate your incredibly detailed feedback from your visit to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo! Firstly, we definitely agree that purchasing the multi-attraction pass is a better value for money tickets as you get to visit multiple of our sister attractions such as SEA LIFE Sydney, Madame Tussauds Sydney and the Sydney Tower Eye! The more you see, the more you save! We aim is to have our attraction be of interest to everyone of all ages, with signage about our amazing animals, our dome observation area at the Tasmanian Devil Exhibit and Koala Rooftop! However, we do appreciate your feedback in regards to this and will take our feedback into consideration to make our WILD LIFE Sydney experience enjoyable for everyone! Our amazing keepers are all so passionate as you mentioned, and throughout the day, we do have various keeper talks throughout the attraction. You can view the times of our Keeper Talks on our website! In regards to our Koala Photos Opportunity, the cost of $30 for 2 people and $5 for any extra people includes getting up close and personal with our Koalas and receive 2 complimentary printed photos to take home as a wonderful souvenir! Unfortunately, guests are unable to hold a Koala due to a change in the rules a few years ago. It's now against the regulations for members of the public to cuddle koalas in Sydney and the rest of NSW. No zoo or wildlife park in NSW is permitted to allow guests to cuddle koalas. However, guests surely get an amazing view of the Koala from inside their enclosure! Thank you so much again for the detailed review and we hope to see you again soon! If you have any further feedback, please reach to us at wildlifesydney@merlinentertainments.com.au ! Cheers, WILD LIFE Sydney Team

I visited three different zoos while in Sydney recently. I went to the Koala Sanctuary, the Taronga Zoo, and the wildlife Sydney Zoo. Make no mistakes all of them were lovely in their own way but of the three, I most enjoyed my time at the Wildlife Sydney Zoo. This was in large part because of the zookeepers and attentive staff that roamed the small but well appointed zoo grounds. Their attention to detail and their knowledge of the animals under their care was second to none.

Not only did they give great talks on the half hour about the koalas, the alligators, the kangaroos, and the reptiles; but they also spoke individually with their guest speaker and offered a wealth of information. Access to the animals was also best at this zoo. As soon as I arrived Dean, the snake handler, was walking around with a beautiful diamond snake wrapped around his wrist. He not only took time to let me pet the snake, but also answered a wide variety of questions I had about the snake and the other animals at the zoo. The animals are well cared for and extremely happy in their environment. You can tell just by the way they interact with their handlers. While this is not the biggest zoo in Sydney it is certainly the most hands-on for someone who wants to get up close with Australian wildlife. I couldn't believe that I spent four and a half hours there as it seemed like time was flying. This is highly recommended it will not disappoint!

Hey there X3395VIangelac, Thank you for the amazing review and for spending your day here at Wildlife Sydney Zoo. We are so happy that you enjoyed your time wondering the zoo and coming face to face with the amazing and sometimes interesting animals and reptiles that call Australia home. Also, that you got the chance to pet a snake on arrival. I'll be sure to pass on the positive feedback to the staff members that work here as well. Once again thank you for taking the time to leave this positive review. We do hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Wildlife Sydney Zoo

It is a small zoo in caparison to the larger zoos but if you want to see the Australia Big Five (Koala, Crocodile, Kangaroo, Wombat and the Platypus) and you do not have a lot of time, this is the zoo to visit. The zoo had many animals, including the Cassowary, Tasmanian Devil, Wolverine, snakes, birds, butterflies, bats, etc. Our tour guide, Holly, was very knowledgeable about the zoo wild life. The highlight for me was the Breakfast with the Koalas. It was a delight to see them up close, awake and eating. Unfortunately NSW has a law to prohibit holding koalas but I was satisfied that we could take as many photos as we wanted and have a photo taken by the tour guide next to the koala. Since koalas are only awake for about 4-6 hours, we had to get up very early to catch them awake. But it was worth the early rising and to our surprise the breakfast was plenty and very good. Plus, we had access to the zoo prior to the official opening so we had the zoo to ourselves. I highly recommend the zoo, especially if you are in the city for a few days.

We bought a 2 attraction ticket and the zoo was suppose to be our first stop. However when buying the tickets the location was not clear. We ended up at another zoo and they explained to us this happened a lot. They gave us free tickets to see their zoo and we thought we would travel to the ‘actual zoo’ after. Time we got there it was shut and never got to visit - was a massive shame and wasted money.

This is a nice way to see local animals in a convenient location. The enclosures are very small which was a bit of a turn off to me however the staff seemed very attentive and knowledgeable, walking around interacting with the animals and answering questions. For $25 you can interact with a koala by standing next to it and getting your picture taken. The koalas sleep 21 hours or days so most people outside doing this interaction Just had their picture taken next to a sleeping koala. We were still able to get nice pictures of the koalas without paying for the additional interaction. My eight-year-old really enjoyed herself here.

The Wild Life Sydney Zoo is located in Darling Harbor in the same complex as the Sea Life Aquarium and Madame Tussauds. The zoo is on the small side, but it does showcase animals that are native to Australia such as koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, and platypus. The saltwater crocodile exhibit was under renovation. For additional cost, you can have your photo taken with one of the cute koalas, but you are not allowed to hold one. Follow the walkway to see the various habitats and different species of animals. The saltwater crocodile exhibit was under renovation when we visited. Other exhibits include frogs, snakes, pythons, and various lizards. Daily keeper talks are held at different locations and times throughout the zoo. Check the schedule when you arrive if interested in any of the talks.

G'Day ITRT! Thank you so much for your review! We take pride in showcasing our incredible Australian animals in the heart of Sydney, whilst also demonstrating our conservation efforts through the WILD LIFE Conservation Fund. Additionally, our Crocodile Billabong with our three snappy freshwater crocodiles is now open! However, in regard to not being able to touch our koalas, here at WILD LIFE we put the safety and well-being of our animals as a priority and limit the amount of stress and disruption to their sleep cycle. Along with this, it’s against regulations for members of the public to cuddle koalas in Sydney and the rest of NSW. No zoo or wildlife park in NSW is permitted to allow guests to cuddle koalas. We hope to see you again for another adventure! Cheers, WILD LIFE Sydney Team
