Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For non 4wd-ers. It is possible, and very satisfying, to walk in along the 4wd track. It took us a little under an hour, setting off from the parking bay. We started at 9am which was still fairly cool and pleasant, but by the time we arrived we were very ready for an icy cold swim. We came back at midday, which was a bit of a slog, even though we all drank lots of water.
If I went again I would start the walk in a few hours earlier to have enough time left in the cool of the day to do the Chain of Ponds walk from next the Rockhole as well. Live and learn!

Great little secret, tough 4x4 track to get there however so please make sure you are capable of such a track (you may not see anyone else so dont expect help).
A few hikes/walks you can do once you arrive, all with nice views.
Camping is also available at a fee. There are toilets present.
Enjoy!

Found within the Trephina Gorge Nature Park, 85 kilometres from Alice Springs, the drive into John Hayes Rockhole is a serious 4 wheel Drive affair.
Scenery is fabulous and birding, which is why we were there is very rewarding.
Camping is available at the Rockhole and hiking through the rocky hills is another worthwhile activity although this would be best done early morning or on a cooler day.
Camp fees apply but are only a few dollars per person, per day.

Just wanted to advise visitors, that I was able to ride my e-bike along the 4 km 4WD track (even keeping pace with a 4WD ahead of me). I only had to walk it through 2 short sections where the rocks were too big to ride over safely. It was to save me some time walking in to the head of the actual JH Rockhole track - I didn't have the extra 2 hours this would have taken me to walk in. It was a most enjoyable walk through the small gorge created en route to the Rockhole and camping area itself.
