Description:

The Defence of Darwin Experience is managed by Darwin Military Museum on...

The Defence of Darwin Experience is managed by Darwin Military Museum on behalf of the Northern Territory Government.

It was established to tell a story of Darwin's role in World War II and is dedicated to the period 1932 to 1945 - a very important time in Territory history.

The Defence of Darwin Experience opened on 18 February 2012, which was in time to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin.

Defence of Darwin Experience is the first facility in Australia to provide visitor with an immersive, interactive, multimedia experience which extends beyond the physical walls of the precinct 'hub'.

The Defence of Darwin Experience is fully airconditioned inlcuding a gift shop and cafe.

The Darwin Military Museum is only a step outside of the Defence of Darwin Experience, providing visitors with a different experience: artillery pieces; vehicles, uniforms, firearms, models and paintings and much more.

The Darwin Military Museum is the original military museum which was established from the 1960s by the Royal Australian Association of the Northern Territory.

The Darwin Military Museum is continuing to expand by adding more exhibitions to further educate visitors of Northern Australia involvement in WWII.

Defence of Darwin Experience and Darwin Military Museum has formed a large World War II precinct at East Point. Visitors can move through the precinct and view the displays and exhibitions offered by both facilities.

I vaguely remember learning about Darwin's invasion back in school. My family were impacted by the Vietnam War so going through the museum allowed me to see how massive the machinery and weaponry really was. It was insightful to learn how Darwin was attacked back then and how advanced we are today in terms of border control.

What a great experience. This museum has all the items you would expect from a military museum. Add to these the interactive displays and cinema experience and you can loose yourself for a full half day. I would recommend this to all visitors to Darwin so they understand the significance of Darwin during WWII

A very well designed and interesting insite into WW2. The interactive displays bring the events of 1942 to life. As visitors from the Uk it brought a different perspective to a time in history. If you don't mind the walk catch the no 4 bus and then walk the road. A beautiful walk with some shade approx 2 miles with... More

We visited on a Sunday morning. Plenty of parking. There is lots to see both inside and out. The galleries and areas are well maintained. The movie presentation is great but lacks some facts about the Bombing of Darwin. The displays are very informative give you a lot of valuable information.

Extremely well done, and set out, film clip very moving, along with some very informative remnants of the bombing of Darwin and defence personnel in various conflicts.

This museum is a vital piece of Australian history. Very educational and sombering. The video was well done and the displays inside are great. It's great to walk through the grounds and see the machinary and supplies from different wars. Would be nice to see the outside equipment preserved better from the elements.

This was unexpectedly an emotional experience. The video was beautifully produced. The sound and movie quality both adding effect and creating emotion in its viewers. You can also walk around the grounds which will take between half an hour to an hour to peruse. You will see incredibly well maintained war machines and memorabilia and read the stories behind it.... Given that so many in this Nation are not familiar with the multiple raids on Darwin from 19th February 1942, and the critical front line position of Darwin, I would well recommend this experience to all ... young and old. It is informative, and meticulously curated. It provides a unique insight in to aspects of the Nations History, set in... More

Definately should be on your "to visit" list if you haven't been before. Plenty of exhibits & personal accounts of this period. Maybe worth looking around the outdoors 1st, we left it till last & got caught in the rain - it was the wet season!
