The Deckchair Cinema is THE outdoor cinema on Darwin's Waterfront.

We are a fully indepedent movie theatre operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences unseen movies on the big screen.

The Deckchair Cinema is located on Darwin's Waterfront (Jervois Road), and is open 7 nights a week from mid April to mid November. Gates open nightly at 6.30pm so you can enjoy a tropical sunset over Darwin Harbour before the 7.30pm screening.

Our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. Come down early, enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk or feast your taste buds on a hot meal from one of our food vendors. No BYO alcohol.

We are easily accessible via a well-lit picturesque walkway from the City Esplanade and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site.

The choice of movies is so good. Sitting outside, stars etc really pleasant and different way to see films. Some of the films offered are quite obscure, lots of variation available, but always good. There are family movies offered also, for a night out for all. Food available at this venue also, and of course soft drinks. Don't know if... More

We have been there numerous times, both on our own and with visitors. Atmosphere is fabulous. There is dinner provided at a reasonable cost most nights - from participating local restaurants. Plus the bar sells decent drinks. So you can sit back under the stars, sip your wine after a nice dinner of the deck and take in a flick.... More

A great night out under the stars. Located along the shore front of Darwin harbour with a bar, great food and surrounded by lush rainforest. The Deckchair cinema is probably one of the best nights out in Darwin during the dry season. Also a fine selection of films too enjoy.

The Deckchair Cinema is an experience not to be missed. An ideal setting, near the water, amongst tropical trees, a fabulous ambiance with nice food and drink available..& not to forget about the great variety of movies, including festival movies, they offer.

This is a Darwin icon and must do - not many of these left so experience a great night under the stars. Movie selection is usually very good and the drinks and eats go down exceptionally well with a cool dry season breeze.

Every night is great at the Deckchair. Check the guide for a movie you like and be there by 6:30 pm for a lovely dinner and a glass of wine. There is a deck overlooking the harbour to eat in comfort, then take your glass to your chair to enjoy the film.

Looking for something different to do in the dry season, check out the Deckchair cinema. Fantastic food, bar and scenery while you watch a huge variety of films from Australia and the rest of the world. As Molly would say "Do yourself a favour".

A Northern Territory experience which should not be missed, get there early, have a meal and a drink and watch the sun set over Darwin Harbour. Watching a movie under the stars is very special, but apply mozzie repellent in copious quantities (supplied) and stay clear of the resident possums who are always looking for a feed.
