Capture a great overview of Townsville with a visit to Mount Stuart....

Capture a great overview of Townsville with a visit to Mount Stuart. Providing views overlooking the entire city and across to Magnetic Island and Cleveland Bay, Mount Stuart is a great way for visitors to get their bearings before further exploring Townsville North Queensland. Walk, run, ride or drive to the top of the 9km road, but if you plan to tackle it by foot ensure you have a good level of fitness and plenty of water as it is a steep climb in areas. Once you reach the top of Mount Stuart, enjoy the breezes, relax with a picnic, take in the views or further explore the short bush walks around the area.

The trip up to Mount Stuart is both quick (15 min drive) and pleasant with a decent road with a not so-scary ascent/decent. Its location behind the city of Townsville generally means most don't visit but it is well worth the slightly shorter ascent because the views are far more expansive than Castle Hill. Caravans could probably make the trip... More

The view will start a few minutes when one starts driving up to the top. Park the car and walk to the lookout. Townsville and surrounding area is at your feet. On a day day the view extends all the way to the Palm island group and Hinchenbrook. After enjoying the scenery, go for a little walk, follow the path... More

Lovely breezy area for a summer day picnic. Great views. There's a small walking track around the buildings away from the platform and picnic table.

Great views of Townsville. The road up and down is popular with cyclists. It is possible to walk up as well (1-1/2 to 1-3/4 hours). Needs facilities at the top such as toilets, water, picnic tables. This would make it more people and family friendly.

An excellent place to visit and enjoy the fantastic views of the City of Townsville. This site overlooks the Army base at the bottom of the mountain. You can also see Magnetic Island and the wharves in the city. A fantastic place to take photos of the city and surrounding areas.

It was well worth the drive up this mountain. The views are outstanding. It is natural beauty with no shops so take your own food and water and drive safely
