The story behind Faye and her friends is an amazing one of endurance and community spirit What a delightful way to see how many lived in the area in the 1970's, all the usual home comforts and a few more

Amazing that a women could dig a underground home with so much space. She truly was a trail blazer. We visited on the last day before the Xmas break. The caretakers live here and take tours with obvious delight and pride. Lots of information about Faye and the details of the digging of this house was very interesting

Took our visitors here, the caretaker showed us around and told us some interesting facts. Set up as a museum with all the old furniture and coverings. The swimming pool and where the caretakers lived was not underground and disappointing. However if anyone is staying at the Lookout Cave Underground Motel then this is just the same and the owners... We took our visitors to see this underground house as we had been before and thought it wonderful. Faye and two female friends dug out the whole house by hand. It is large and beautifully done. Our guide who was living there knew all the histroy and made the tour very interesting. If in Coober Pedy put this underground on... More

We did a tour of Faye’s Underground Home a few weeks back when in Coober Pedy and it was very interesting to learn how they it was dug back in the day and how people still live there underground. It is understandable to want to live underground as the outside temperature can get crispy and dry so being comfortable under... More

This is a hidden gem with great history and story behind how it came to be. The caretaker was full of interesting information and at the final part of the tour there was the greatest surprise to behold ..... need to see it to discover.

This home is still currently lived in by this generous couple who open it for tourists to see how the locals live, but how they literally carved their homes out of the desert. It's fun and interesting, and worth a visit.

This is an amazing "dugout" (underground house) which was dug by a woman (with a bit of help from some friends) in the 60s. I don't want to give too much away but I certainly would love to live in it now. Definitely a must see

A great testament to the really tough women that Australia can produce. At the time Faye started her underground house, she and her two friends were three of only 10 women in the population of 80. Quite a feat. Done miss it.

This gem of a dugout is off the beaten track and should definitely be on your list. Colin and June the current caretakers are passionate friendly and knowledgeable and Fay the original owner and builder of the house must have been quite some woman.
