Salamanca Square really is the cultural, historical hub of Hobart for dinning, entertainment and shopping. Its is one of Hobart's best kept secrets as a great place to hang out.

It’s a safe environment with no cars where the kids can run around while you can relax and have a coffee. The kids love the fountain and the bronze statues.

In winter it’s a sun trap and protects you from any cold winds. With a large underground car park and lots of on street parking it is never a hassle getting to. It’s also walkable from the waterfront, cruise terminal and city centre

The food options are fantastic and the coffee options will suit the fussiest coffee drinker.

It has some of the best public toilets in Hobart open from 6 am to 9 pm daily with disability access and a baby change facility

There’s a large outdoor chess board, free Wi-Fi and a large TV screen to keep up with the latest in news, sport & entertainment
It also has some bank machines and public telephones

There are some great shops here - check out the TASSAL store and the Hobart book store for a great Tasmania section. There is free Wifi here and a fountain.

I sort of found myself here by default and was quite glad to find somewhere to have a sit down and a decent cup of Coffee . It is airy and swept and bustling with people . It strikes me that it IS a good place to fall into . There was even a halfway decent Bookshop .... in fact it was a really GOOD Bookshop - I bought a copy of a Book by William Burroughs I hadn't seen around for an age . My advice ..... find this Square . There are Pastries and drinks and people and conversations to be had . Hobart is Hobart is Hobart . I love it to bits xxx

I think that Salamanca Square is a little hidden away which is why it was so less busy that Salamanca Place, just a few steps away. It sounds a bit like a shopping mall but is in fact an open space, just behind all those beautiful sandstone buildings that line Salamanca Place.

There are bars, restaurants, cafes, galleries as well as regular everyday, non-tourist businesses. There’s also public toilets there too.

Well worth checking out.

Its not the greatest place in Hobart. It has a nice fountain in it, some business's, cafes, children's play sets and restaurants. It has some historic buildings but isn't a must see.
Due to Covid restrictions in Australia, it wasn't really busy so not much atmosphere. Have a quick look and then move on.

Salamaka Square and Place is where you might expect to see the tourists with its restautrants and craft shops and art studios. It has a pleasant fountain and has the balance of the historic buildings but it still is a tourist trap and there are better places in Hobart.
