Arthurs; Circus is a small circular park surrounded by old historical cottages in Battery Point that have retained their original form and character. Lieutenant Govenor George Arthur acquired the lots in suspect circumstances in 1824 and sold the lots in 1847, one assumes for s significant profit. The park was not well maintained but the cottages have retained their unique character and definitely worth a visit, Most of the houses would have been built in the 1840's and externally the same but internally modernised and because of thr location probably are worth significant sums.

Like Disneyland for grown ups because it’s white picket perfection seems too good to be true. A circle of neat, meticulously presented cottages in the heart of Hobart. Walk up Kelly’s Steps from Salamanca and find this gem of a street. These are real homes do respect the privacy of the residents - enjoy the park and the beautiful flowers....
love it 😊

Purchased by Governor Sir George Arthur in 1829 and resold in 1847, as a building development this historic and interesting small park is surrounded by quaint historic and heritage cottages. Fortunately the history has been retained which adds to the interest of Battery Point.

Cute & beautifully maintained houses around this tiny park. I enjoy reading the plaques on the houses. The parking fine sign made me laugh, good luck buddy!

It’s a beautiful little park with sweet houses around it. It is worth a walk by if you are in the area. Even if you just want to rest your legs and look at the flowers and let the kids play on the swings.

Stepping into this area, you are encircled by homes which makes you feel as though you have stepped back into the nineteenth Century. A visually attractive array of small homes that were once owned by officers of the garrison.

This was recommended to us by the receptionist at our hotel, The St Ives apartments as we wanted to have a look at Battery point. It was only a couple of streets up from where we were. Its only a small circle of houses but is amazingly beautiful and shows the history of the area. The houses are lovingly restored / kept and surround a small park which was nice and green. Worth a look if doin a walk around Battery Point.

The names of the street - Runnymede - and of the small square which dissects it - Arthur's Circus - evoke images of England and indeed this little square with its ring of stone houses, all facing inwards in the direction of the green park in the middle, would not be out of place in an English village.
The noticeboard on the park states that this land was purchased by Governor Arthur in 1829 and was subsequently sold off in allotments in 1847. The majority of the stone cottages that one sees today were reportedly built in the 1840's to house the officers of the Garrison.
There is a small green park in the middle of the square with some bench seats and some children's swings.
Well worth a look if in Battery Point.

Walk to Arthur Circus from Salamanca Place. It is well sign posted. Plus the views are awesome. Wonder by the homes from yesteryear.
