The Chinese New Year in Melbourne is hosted in several locations around Melbourne, each with its own flavour and activities. Over 11 nights in February, the Docklands are home to the bustling lunar markets, where not only Chinese and Asian food sizzles, but also where traditional dragon dances illuminate a path of red lanterns and face painting activities are a kiddie favourite. Don't forget to put your red envelope underneath your pillow on the eve of the Chinese New Year to attract good luck and fortune for the rest of the year!

There were multiple celebrations around Melbourne for Chinese New Year. We saw various performers at Federation Square. It was helpful that they had a large screen to see the acts.

Was in Melbourne over the Chinese New Year and saw the Dai Loong dragon and many Lion dancers. A good day was spent with the numerous activities at the Russell Street end.

If you want an authentic Oriental feel, then Chinatown is the place to be, especially during the Chinese new Year celebrations. There are lots of asian restaurants, eateries along the street. Chinatown is easily accessible by walking from Flinders Street station, the main train station...More

We went to Chinatown thinking there would be great bargains and celebration decorations for the New Year etc. There's not much to shop here but if you are hungry give it a shot. We walked end to end and really weren't captured by anything amazing.

even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
