Melbourne and Olympic Parks together, form a large sporting precinct in the heart of Melbourne. It’s well served by public transport and in any case, is all within easy walking distance of the CBD. It’s a lovely walk along the banks of the Yarra.
Melbourne Park is most well known for hosting the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament each year. The whole area comes alive during the tournament, with lots of energy and buzz. We had a brilliant week recently, staying in the city centre, walking to and from Melbourne Park each day for the AO tennis, and making the most of Melbourne’s wonderful foodie scene at night.
For anyone planning an upcoming trip, there are separate TA listings for Olympic Park Oval and also Melbourne Park as well as the main arenas, Rod Laver and Margaret Court.

The Melbourne and Olympic Parks complex is close to the heart of the City. Olympic Park ws initually built as a training facility for the 1956 Olympics athletics, held at the nearby MCG. Since then, the ground has hosted the Storm (rugby league) and the A-League's Melboune Victory (soccer). The venue is also used for entertainment. It's just about 15 minutes walk from the City.

If you are tennis fan, Melbourne Park and a tour of Rod Laver Arena is a must! The tour will take you around the locker rooms, the hallways that lead into the stadium, the press conference room, you´ll see the trophies and you´ll get a chance to look into Rod Laver arena from the VIP area. While we were there the roof was closed unfortunately and the floor covered so it did not feel like a tennis court but it was great anyway. There is a small store when you can purchase some tennis gear as a souvenir. Next time I´ll need to return for the Australian Open!

My Wife and I have traveled from England for our 15 yr wedding anniversary to enjoy the LIAM Gallagher show.
What an absolute discrase.
We waited for the last song (our wedding song) and some bright spark pulled the plug half way through it.
I was told by staff that this was liam Gallagher who did this...Are you for real? I have seen him 15 times and never has he cut a gig short. Then told they went over their time slot - that's it my fault either.
I am absolutely beyond frustrated and demand some kind of explanation as to why I paid a full price only for the concert to finish half way through the last song.
I have video coverage of you security staff trying to make up excuse after excuse as to why this happened and will be happy to share my treatment with any current affairs channel.
We paid over 2.5 thousand pounds to be here for the show and to say this was a let down is an absolute understatement.
To have a huge European act cut short is a huge shame on your part.
Please have someone contact me ASAP to discuss this matter as I feel I have paid for a show who h did not even get the chance to conclude

This is simply the best sporting precinct on the planet. The reason: it hosts several stadiums for sports and entertainment (football, soccer, tennis, rugby, and every imaginable concert and event / day or night). And in almost every category it is acknowledged as the best in its class ie the facilities for the Australian Open tennis tournament. With all these facilities connected through a series of bridges and paths; all within short proximity to the other. And to best of all, in Melbourne City and a stones throw to all those entertainment hubs and amazing cafe and more formal restaurants.

A must visit tour and experience if in Melbourne, the place has a buz and is unbelievable , get there for a game

Just attended the first and second rounds of the Aussie Open Tennis for the first time and would make a few comments:
There is a fair bit of luck involved in terms of getting to see the your favourite players and striking the best weather conditions for spectating. We booked the premium seats at Rod Laver Arena and while you are guaranteed to see seeded and popular players up close (we got Roger Federer and Angelique Kerber) you may not get your preferred Australian players (Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic were on other courts - I'm now aware that Nick has a preference for Hisense Arena and there may have been some pointed scheduling to go with his preference). Melbourne turned on a particularly uncomfortable first 2 days of over 35 degree temperatures for the first 2 days of the tournament but an extremely pleasant 23-24 degrees on the third day (in fact, in the shaded areas of Rod Laver arena at either end of the court there were many spectators wearing jumpers because of the windy conditions!) The scheduling of the matches for each court on each day only only comes up the day before which means that you either book ahead to ensure your seat and cross your fingers that you get your favourite players in the main courts or you wait for the schedule and hope that there are tickets for the particular court. Anyway all this experience helps for next year.

I had morning match tickets. There were plenty of staff to help you find everything! The cue to get in was long but I was still inside in a short amount of time.Before entering I was given an ANZ seat cushion which I thought was a great idea, as sitting for over 5 hours in the plastics seats could of been a bit hard. The food can be a bit on the expensive side, but you are allowed to take in your own food, which I did so all I needed to buy was water and a coffee. The atmosphere was great and the matches fantastic. Will definitely go again next year. Number on e tip if you are sitting in Rod Laver, before buying tickets check for the sun and take sun screen.

From Punt Road in the east all the way up to and beyond Rod Laver Arena, the Melbourne Park precinct is a monument to good planning and good ol' common sense. With the MCG, Vodaphone Arena, AAMI Park, the Tennis Centre and 3 or 4 sports ovals all clustered around this one area - AND the Yarra River flowing alongside, it's both functional and scenic.
Easy to get to via Train or Tram and pleasant to walk through. My only criticism? The street lighting could be improved. Can be quite dull at night.

Had the privilege of attending the Australian Open Tennis Tournament--one of the 4 Grand Slams. The facilities here at Melbourne Park are world class as is the hospitality of the staff and all of Melbourne. Easily accessible via train/tram.
