Melbourne has a beatutiful Library that is a must to visit. From the moment we walked in we were transported to a peaceful place...going to the second floor is a must. The ceiling and decoration are beautiful...worth walking around.

This is one of Melbourne's treasures. A living piece of the city's history that is open to all to explore and spend time in. Don't miss the Reading Room and make sure that you head upstairs to look at the various exhibitions freely available to visitors, such as the Cowen Gallery exhibition of oil paintings and sculpture and the fascinating... Now, this is a place I never thought I would shout from the rafters about...but believe me VISIT THIS PLACE. You will be wowed by the reading room - a glass domed room that is stunning on a sunny day and I am sure equally as impressive on a rainy day. The Library has exhibitions that rival any museum and... Well worth a visit to see the architecture of the reading room, and some interesting displays that cover literature and local history.

I was really blown away by the level of services, accessibility, and events offered by the library. It is DEFINITELY a must see! Get inside and tour the small gallery, but certainly make your way into the main reading room for some of their rotating exhibitions and breathtaking views from the top of the room. There is also a lovely... More

Dropped in here on a whim. The radio exhibition was great for people over 30, not so interesting for the under 20s. The dome, and it's little nooks and crannies with Ned Kelly history and the old photos of Victoria, kept the teens amused for a good hour. Good place to spend an hour or so indoors.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
