Great place to visit with friends or family. Needs some more sheltered areas for hot summer days though and even some more chairs and tables to eat as we found the eateries all very packed and no seats available. Takes a while to walk between...More

My family adore Melbourne. Zoo. We are members which affords us free visits to Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary as well as discounted tickets to special events, and you'll definitely notice the shorter queue for members especially at peak times like school holidays....More

The Melbourne Zoo is a well presented zoo with well maintained grounds. The animals are varied and generally have good sized enclosures. The exhibits are interesting and informative. There are several food options within the park, or you can bring your own food in and...More

I highly recommend the Roar and Snore experience which is an overnight stay at the zoo with two tours of the zoo with just your group and two guides present. At night we saw plenty of nocturnal animals (leopards, tapirs, coati) zoo-goers normally would not...More

Easy to get to by train from CBD. Uninspiring main entry..but the self guided map is very useful. Our standouts were the giraffes and zebras, lemurs, meerkats and elephants.....but also enjoyed the beautiful surrounds with the many connecting pathways. Disappointed that many animals were either...More

There are a lot of animals to see but we found a lot of the larger animals had small enclosures which was depressing. The food options were also lacking in quality considering the small menu. Wouldn’t go back but something to do with kids if...More

Easy to get to by tram and train. The zoo shares an important conservation message with animals well cared for and settings as natural as possible. Lots of places to stop and rest and areas to buy food and gifts.

We went to the zoo specifically to see the platypus. I have a student who is obsessed with this odd animal and I told him I would get a picture of a real one. While I wasn't able to get a picture, I did manage...More

The zoo is easily accessed from the city and parking was plentiful - though we're glad we missed the school holiday crowds. There were a large number of school children visiting from youngsters to teen high school students, a number of whom were rather rowdy...More

No I do not think so. I can't remember any area for touching animals. However the Melbourne Aquarium has a feely pool with star fish, sponges and shells that can be touched.
