General admission to the NGV is free. Special exhibitions have a small entrance fee. Try to get a guide to explain the current exhibit of aboriginal artworks as it adds so much to your understanding and enjoyment. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. There is a café and a gift shop in the NGV if you need a break... More

This 'gallery' can feel more like an out of date museum than a gallery. The so called 'collection' is a very random, mish mash of this & that, put together with very little consideration or skill. There has been little or no consideration of the visitor experience, journey or route through the various areas, signage & way finding are extremely... More

Melbourne's a terrific city with plenty to tempt tourists, but the NGV is high on my list as one that's well worth a visit. It's close to the city centre and has plenty of places for you to rest, eat and drink, etc. The Viktor and Rolf fashion design exhibition was fascinating and a great opportunity to take photographs though... When I was an overseas student, I often spend my whole day here. My favourite zone is multi colour glass roof. It seems to be there are many people love to lay back on the floor and watch the glass roof.

As Melbournians I think we're really lucky to always have great exhibitions on offer. Recently I have seen Degas, which was beautiful. While Viktor & Rolf was fantastic, giving us the full experiene and making us want to be children again to participate in the hat making program. Not to be missed is the Italian Jewels until Jan 29th!

Never a dull moment. From the water wall when you enter to the moving garden wall in the cafe when you leave this space is energising. Saw the bulgari exhibition for free. Great buskers outside too.

Attended John Olson exhibition. Very interesting Australian art. Presentation of artworks done well. spaced out, with places to sit and take in artworks without to much crowding and with the opportunity to rest weary legs.

Huge variety of art. Saw the David Hockney exhibition and highly recommend it. Set aside at least half a day to enjoy it. Preferably a whole day - you can get lunch at the gallery or nearby on Southbank.

Really good display of art from all over the world that changes regularly. Most of the NGV is free to visit with specific collections that may have a fee attached. One of the best free attractions in Melbourne!
