Warm Irish care and cheer from Ceire and staff at the Irish pub
Jun 2021
Ceire and staff at PJ O’Brien’s look after all customers with cheer.
They look after friendship groups or business groups for lunch or dinner.
The setting is clubby booths, well set out tables in busy parts or quiet nooks.
The Guinness pie and the pan fried salmon are delicious with crispy skin and fluffy, crisp pastry. The mussel pot is piled high to soak through with crunchy sough dough bread. Of course the real Irish stew is a go comfort food. All plates were master chef class cooking. As we burst out of lockdown PJ O'Brien Southbank is there to welcome us.
Orders for drinks and meals are promptly served. The meals are generous. They are placed on the table with pride, Irish tradition and hope.
It is always good to visit PJ O’Brien at Southbank.

Most Authentic bar I have seen outside of Ireland
Apr 2021 • Friends
Having lived in Ireland I can attest to the true authenticity of PJ O’Briens.
Lots of Authentic materials having been shipped from the Emerald Isle are displayed in a manner that would not look out of place in Dublin.
Genuine Irish staff serving up great food and Guinness.
A must do for anybody who thrives in this type of setting.
Thank you Laura for your service with a smile 24.04.2021

Quick meal after a big day out and PJ’s was perfect. The team are friendly and organised. The food good pub fare and met the needs of a vegetarian teenager. I will be back.

Ordinary
Dec 2020 • Friends
Great Irish pub atmosphere but not everything was good.
When paying for drinks staff took my card and disapeared with it fir some time (I hope I only paid for my drinks).
2 out of 3 meals were ordinary. Not sure how any chef can muck up fish and chips (soggy batter) and chicken schnitnel (under-cooked) bread crumbs.

Very good place, the live music was very good, the food and Guiness too. I liked the Irish stew. The waitress was very friendly and the atmosphere was good.

Great bar & friendly staff
Feb 2020 • Solo
Great bar with really friendly staff. Served by young Irish girl from Galway with blonde hair who was really friendly (didn’t get her name - sorry!). She’s a great asset to the bar. Engages with customers in friendly and welcoming manner.

Great selection of beer etc and has the feel of a real Irish pub.

A really good place for a drink and a bite to eat. Staff very friendly and efficient. Very well located within Southgate shopping centre on ground floor with easy access to riverfront. A must Irish pub to visit whenever in Melbourne!

Great pub comfort food
Nov 2019 • Family
Loved the ambience, service and the food was great. Not expensive, thoroughly enjoyed the seafood chowder and my guests loved the Guinness meat pie.
Definitely recommend it and will go back.

Quick food on Southbank near hotel
Nov 2019 • Business
Was down for the week for week and ate here most nights . It was just simple pub food which was tasty and over the series of nights I had the Steak and wings, the Chicken Parmi (You have to when in Melbourne) and the fish and chips.
Whilst there are lots of places to eat at Southbank it can get very expensive very quickly- this was just good honest tucker at fair prices
It isn’t a place for meeting just social
