On our first day in Melbourne we arrived early, hungry, and our hotel room not ready for check in. After a quick consult of the map I decided that the Flinders/Stimson area would be a good place to find a pub for lunch. We had spent the last 4 days in Sydney and had our share of pub lunches, however,... More

After a romantic dinner in the city, my husband and I decided to go for a walk. We ended up at Y&J and decided to go in for one drink. I think we ended up leaving around 2.30 - 3.00 am... The atmosphere was great, staff were friendly and the cover band (Mamma Jam) was awesome. As a couple from... More

Cocktils were fabulous, the cheese platter was good, even those of us who don't like blue cheese liked this one. It was packed with a Sunday crowd so the atmosphere was great. Even if we got sent to the roof to watch the cricket and it wasn't on up there after 4 flights of stairs. Loved it.

Lots of seating and relaxed atmosphere. Beer was cold and had a good selection of beers on tap. Would go back!

Love how they have kept history and character of this historical hotel. Chloe is well presented and worth getting a photo. The bars, location with Flinders Street Station views are irreplaceable. Food is so so, bar menu ok and restaurant menu a bit trendy and expensive. Does not match ambience and character of this heritage establishment. But a definite must... More

The Express Menu is worth looking at for lunch. Selections and meal sizes are good and service prompt. Pretty quiet midweek so could have a good business lunch without shouting.

Lunch on a mild spring day, upstairs overlooking the heart of the city, elegant setting and food, and presence of "Chloe" made this a memorable experience.

Not bad, but lacking in timing and service. Popped in here for dinner as on my own on a business trip in the city. Ordered one of their special Octoberfest beers and a chicken parmigiana. After ten minutes I asked where the beer was, and apparently the bar staff were 'looking for it', - strange as a featured beer on... More

Evening show at The Regent Theatre close by and obtained a table quickly before the post Derby Day exit via Flinders Street railway station (opposite). Watched the passing parade outside the windows which provided a great "floor show". Service excellent, meals excellent. I would highly recommend it.

Thank Maggie R

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
