Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you're into old and quirky antiques then you'll love spending time at The Junk Company. Everything is organised in to like items. Want an art deco light shade, then head to the left hand side. Looking for some old vinyl for your music collection? Head halfway down the back on the right. What about an antique crinkle-cut chip slicer? You'll find about 12 sticking out of some old milk bottles on one of the bookshelves.

The Junk Company has always been a favorite to pick up gifts, collectables and also just pass the time looking at the wide selection of memorabilia; furniture; figurines; old cameras; books; and much more. The owner of the shop updates his window display regularly - with witty messages and scenes written with antiques from his own store.
Put away around an 30 minutes to an hour to have a proper look around the shop. They accept all credit cards and also everything is reasonably priced. The Junk Company is just a 5 minute walk away from the Victoria Market - down Elizabeth Street away from the city.

The Junk Company is in fact not full of junk as the name would suggest...it is full of carefully selected vintage and antique pieces from a variety of periods spanning Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Mid-century modern and post modern pieces. The owners Bret and his wife are lovely, both are passionate about great vintage and antique things and both are friendly and welcoming to everyone that comes through. The Junk Company is located 15 minutes walk from Flinders Street Station straight down Elizabeth Street and just past the Queen Victoria Market on the left hand side. Great place for gifts!

I was walking around Melbourne recently after visiting the Victoria Markets and stumbled upon this 2 storey shop. If you want things from yesteryear, old signs, records, lights, furniture etc. Then this place has it all. I only had hand luggage so I could not purchase things to bring back to Adelaide, but next time I will bring a suitcase

From the outside you have no idea of the treasures within. It's an Aladdin's cave that just keeps going. There is even an upstairs.
My husband was gobsmacked by the amount of records there were. I was entranced by all the antiques. Everything from lighting to tools. Jewellery to toys.
Make sure you give yourself over an hour or more as you can't rush this experience.

Love this shop. It is my Melbourne must see. Less furniture than they used to, but they always find the most interesting things. I have bought a stack of stuff from them over the years. Especially between 2000 and 2005 when were living in Melbourne.Their prices were so good I could even on sell.
