Although fragmented and surrounded (in places) by farmland this forest reserve is worth a visit. The roads are dirt, but in good condition. There is a 23 km interpretive drive with stations that have interesting information about the fauna and flora of the area. At one of the stations we saw an Echidna in the forest. During our visit we... More

I and family friends have made the Lions Dryandra Village a compulsory winter getaway for a weeks holiday for almost twenty years. It is rustic - after all the timber cottages were the homes of forestry workers in the mid 20th century - but they boast a well equiped kitchen, two bedrooms each with four bunks and mattress, and a... This is one of the highlights of a trip to the mid south west of Western Australia, 27kms from Narrogin and an easy two to two and a half hour trip from Perth. I was visiting with a view to taking some photographs of birds. I found a small variety of interesting birds. It is great to drive around, especially... More

We went to Dryandra Woodland for a few hours and completed the "Sounds of Dryandra Woodland Audio Drive Tour", which comprises of a marked, self-drive route around the woodland. On the drive, there are six spots where you stop your car, tune into 100FM, and listen to information described by the Dryandra Woodland brochure as about "the relationships between people... More

I stayed in the Magpie Cottage in the Lion's eco village in the Dryandra Woodland near Narrogin WA in late August 2013 for 5 days. The long time caretakers Lisa and John were very helpful and understanding as I had made a booking error and they kindly took care of it and sorted it out.The cottage was very private, a... More

Woodland walks available where I have spotted echidnas. This woodland is best known as the place to see wild numbats, but they have escaped me on two visits. Camping and basic accomodation available. Barna Mia is also a nice experience (reviewed seperately).

The caretakers who look after this village were very friendly and welcoming and we enjoyed our stay here very much. We hired the Mallee Hen cottage for 3 nights. This has a double room and a bunk bed. There is a good sized kitchen which has a good range of cooking equipment and a full gas cooker to cook on,... More

Wonderful for a bird watcher and / or animal lover. Need to spend more than 1 day though as there is no guarantee they will be there at your timing. The Dryandra Village is a great base to explore from - basic accommodation with no frills but close to the birdlife and marsupial centre. Also it is very close to... More

I am lucky enough to travel the world to photograph wildlife and Dryandra is STILL one of my favourite places. Take your time, spend a minimum of three nights at Dryandra Village and explore. Have respect, walk quietly and be patient! I love it here ... Numbats, parrots, possums and bettongs. LOVELY! If you get the chance, do the nocturnal... More

This is an easy trip from Perth and a good chance to see wildlife, especially birds. Firm dirt track around the woodland so OK for 2WD [loos in the middle] and good signage at the start with maps so that you don't get lost. With many tall trees and similar scenery follow the map! There is also accommodation for rent... More
