The Broome Historical Society speaks through photographs, subject albums...

The Broome Historical Society speaks through photographs, subject albums and visual displays at the Museum to provide visitors with an understanding of Broome from its rough and ready early days to its emergence as a world centre for cultured pearling. Broome was the first truly multicultural district in Australia; Aboriginal, Japanese, Chinese and Europeans have all contributed to Broome's very diverse cultural history and the Museum, in its exhibits and its albums reflects this richness. Visitors will learn about Pearling and Luggers, Exploitation and Exploration, Adventures, Hardships and Mateship, Asian and Europeans; Riots, Shipwrecks and Missing Diamonds; and Japanese attack on Broome in World War II.

My wife and I love reading/seeing History in the places we visit. We both found the museum at Broome to be a very worthwhile place to go. It has a very good history of Broome from the war time to the early pearling days. There are also pictures of when the town first started to a large private shell collection... More

SMall but fun. An easy walk when you get into town. Enjoyed the boats outside and saw where the water once came. That was different

Broome is a town with a rich and diverse history. This wonderful community museum gives you a glimpse into Broome - its history, diversity and community. We were engrossed for about two hours. So much to see. I've been to quite a few of these types of local museums and been disappointed but not in Broome. The looped video of... More

You haven't seen Broome if you haven't seen the museum, it gives you the history of the city and pearl diving. I enjoyed the video on the telephone exchange girls.

So sad that it was closed but we still took a walk around the building and there were some photo "collages" on the outer walls that we could peer through the bars to look at. Wish we could have gone inside but it was still worth a stop to look at.

Thank BrisCaz
