Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Loved this tour. I have been an fan of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings for decades - well before the movies! Seeing the actual movie set just brought back the whole visual experience from the movies. I felt as though I was reliving it! My tour guide, Courtney, was FANTASTIC - and she knows so many of the lines from the movie which kept us all engrossed! Hobbit lover or not, this is a destination not to be missed.

A tour for everyone, but fans especially will love it! the scenery is amazing, the Hobbiton town was realistic and beautiful, just like a movie experience! lots of great photo opportunities, this is definitely a must see when you visit this part of New Zealand.

My daughter and I loved the tour. Being Lord of the Rings fans, the tour and both the Hobbiton guide and the Kiwi fun tours guide were informative and exceptional. The only drawback was the extremely bumpy ride home. I am not sure if it was the roads or worn out shocks on the bus. Perhaps a combination of both. However it was worth the discomfort.

Kiwi Tours make the otherwise inconvenient commute to Spookers effortless for tourists and locals alike and the package deals they offer on featured attractions are by far the simplest and most cost-efficient way to experience them. Shout-out to our driver Steve who was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and went so far as to lend us a torch to get through the attractions at Spookers!

Gorgeous, and the guide was exceptional. The references to the sights, and the scenes in the movies were wonderful.

If you've seen the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies. A trip to Hobbiton should be on your list of things to do. The movie set tour is so well arranged. You're taken in groups led by a very informed guide who explains each Hobbit house and its connection to the movie. You'll do a fair amount of walking so wear comfortable shoes. The lunch buffet is very satisfying and the visit the Green Dragon pub where you'll be given a choice of specially brewed Ale, Stout, Apple Cider and Ginger Be is a nice touch. The area is beautiful. Don't forget your camera!

Having never seen the movie of read the books, we had no idea what to expect on this tour. As it turns out, this movie set covers a good deal of land, and is maintained as it was for the movies. The guide was excellent explaining details of how the characters are filmed to make them larger or smaller than actual size for the movie. Well worth the time and effort to get there.

Cute and quaint movie set...the guides take you through and around a small hill riddled with cute little hobbit houses. its likewise a leisurely walk so that middle aged people will not hesitate to join the fun. Watch the Hobbit movie later on and you'll smile seeing the exact same set...

I have no idea what that other reviewer is talking about - Hobbiton is wonderful. Even if you don't go for the LOTR aspect of it, the piece of land that it's on is absolutely majestic - super peaceful and relaxing. And the Hobbiton experience itself was really well-done, incredibly professional, and thoughtful. The Hobbiton guide we had was a good mix of funny and knowledgeable about LOTR (and I am a bit of a LOTR snob). Most importantly, Hobbiton wasn't kitschy or gimmicky - it's an authentic experience for any LOTR fan interested in Peter Jackson's vision on a really picturesque piece of property. My only regret is that the Kiwi Fun Tours took us to lunch at Matamata (the small town where Hobbiton is located) rather than eating at the Shire's Rest at the Hobbiton site. Others told us the Shire's Rest has wonderful food while overlooking the beautiful sheep farm that is the Hobbiton landscape. Kiwi Fun Tours was trying to save us all money - the food at Matamata was probably cheaper than at the Hobbiton tourist site. Last tip - the gift shop has a ton of items, but if you're expecting to be able to get items that you can't fit in your suitcase online at Weta, there are a few items that are only available in stores at the Shire's Rest Gift Shop and are not Weta creations. For example, the Green Dragon Ale Mug is only available in the gift shop and not on Weta.com - my second regret. Overall, great experience, and I hope I'm not being too touristy when I say that Hobbiton was one of my favorite experiences on the North Island.
